Kerala Landslide: Five years after a landslide devastated Puthumala in Kerala's Wayanad district, another massive landslide struck nearby villages Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Attamala on July 30, killing 210 and leaving 218 missing. Survivors are in relief camps, and the government faces the challenge of rehabilitating the homeless. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed for contributions to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Previous landslides have left regions uninhabitable, and many survivors are reluctant to return to their ravaged villages. The tragedy has impacted education, tourism, and the livelihoods of countless residents.

Google maps clearly show that houses, resorts and schools have been constructed right on the path where the river flows. What else can we expect if we make this kind of development ?

Really hope that leaders and all involved will rise to the occasion and make wise decisions taking in to consideration the ecologicaly sensitive terrain in this region. Kerala has one of the lowest population growth rate (low fertility rate) likely due to good education and health care which all the state governments have been prioritising, and now it is high time to focus on ecological factors while planning for future.

The Kerala government, opposition parties, the church, Muslims organisations etc should not oppose, but should cooperate in implementing the recommendations of Gadgil committee reports or even try to implement the Kasthuri Rangan report. The appeasement politics of left and right political parties prevented them from implementing the above mentioned reports and the ordinary people are suffering now.

Rampant destruction of forests and trees (Deforestation) has resulted in natural disasters like landslides and floods which are going to get worse in the coming years as the greed for commercialization (hotels, resorts, commercial establishments) and urbanization (residential layouts, houses, home stays) across the natural eco sensitive regions across Western Ghats continues.

Amongst the most vulnerably dangerous regions are Nilgiris, Wayanad, Palni Hills and Idukki are the most critical rather a ticking time bomb of soughts due to unchecked rampant destruction of forests and tress by the corrupt politicians, government officials who have been granting permissions and licenses left right and center to cut chop and destroy precious irreplaceable hectares of forests for building hotels resorts layouts etc.

If this freedom to mercilessly destroy the only few existing precious irreplaceable forests and hills continues in the coming time these regions will no longer exist except in few pictures and videos.

*WAKE UP NOW! WAKE UP BEFORE THE IT'S ALL DESTROYED !!!*

Rehabilitate people away from this fragile ecosystem, so that this will not happen in the future, provide education, food and shelter, medical facilities.

And local government please listen to imd weather reports as they said there's possibility of heavy rain about 150 to 200 mm, that's not less.
