Supporting local artists keeps art alive and reminds us that beauty is closer than what we may believe

For my girlfriend's last year's birthday, I commissioned her a painting, got it printed and and it now hanging in our apartment.
My girlfriend's next birthday is this week. I'm doing it again.
Support local artists. It's really great.

i used to paint on playing card sized cardboard to sell original art to kids/teens, so they learn how special and accessible art can be, like collectible cards. i would even sleeve them. i could do whatever i wanted on them, characters, creatures, ink, paint, old school, abstract. it's crazy how kids would resonate with some of those. i remember a 12 yo boy just falling in love with an abstract watercolor piece with greens and yellows, he was obsessed with it. sold it to him for what he had left of his allowance, 5$. maybe it's nothing for an adult but that kid gave me everything he had for that small painting, and i hope he still collect. :)

My fiance and I take turns finding a piece of art for our anniversary every year and we don't have a lot of money so none of the pieces are expensive but they are all stunning and have added so much to our home ❤ There are so many amazing artists out there! Plus our house is gonna look so cool when we're 80!

thank you thank you! I introduced my adult daughter to my favorite local artist. My daughter bought her first small Mary Iselin painting. I fell in love with a slightly larger painting, and I received my Christmas gift (via my husband, but he included it as a gift for him also). I love buying local artists, and the prices are far too low, but I am also glad she makes the most beautiful paintings for a price I can purchase.

I've commissioned art before and it's a wonderful feeling knowing "I have this artwork you made of my character and it's fucking amazing" so support local artists and artists in general it's worth

Local artists tend to sell low to make room for more art. I do this at the local arts festival. Also art galleries sell art with a huge mark-up so find someone at the local farmers market or heck sometimes local coffee shops put up art for sale too.

Yes!! I try and buy art as much as I can, as a high schooler who is hoping to become an at least half-time artist when I’m older, because I really want to support local artists and because I love art and want it on my walls

Used to go to art shows with my dad that he attended in Houston. Lots of fun and talent and his stuff was cheap as well. More about community than money

My wall is covered by work from independent artists! I even had some pieces commissioned myself!

I am by no means rich (though not poor either to be fair). But living from paycheck to paycheck. But therr is plenty of affordable independent art out there. And it really feels more special to have than a mass produced poster.

If you are looking for affordable artwork, prints are definitely the way to go. For digital first artists, prints might be the only way to get a physical version of their artwork (other than on a T-shirt or coffee mug). They're generally much more durable than an original as well.

It depends on what kind of art you're looking for and where you're looking for it. What medium ad how much time when into can be a huge factor.

I’m the Executive Director for an arts coworking space in Dallas called Cedars Union. And I couldn’t agree more! SUPPORT LOCAL ARTISTS!

I love support local artist especially when I buy in person and get to ask questions lol. Art prints aren’t even that expensive like 20 bucks for a gorgeous print that’s wild 😅 but maybe I’m a little biased as an artist myself

As a person who appreciates supporting local and niche artists but also has a very specific taste and topic for home display and collecting, one which is rarely found at the local and niche level, is there a fund that one could donate to that would pool resources for local art purchases for people without means? Or maybe just what's the process for purchasing local art and then donating it to local museums for their storage and display?
