‘Rakhe Rakhanhaar’ is a beautiful sacred Shabad/Mantra composed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj (5th Nanak of the Sikh faith) paying respect to the Divine, Akaal Purkh Vaheguru which is part of our daily evening Sikh prayer. The essence of this prayer is one of protection, compassion, unity and the removal of obstacles.

Shabad Translation in conjunction with Sikh Scholar par-excellence, Bhai Dav Panesar:

Rakhe Rakhanhaar Aap Ubaarian
Our Saviour, protects us and ferries us across

Gur Kee Pairee Paae Kaaj Savaarian
Our affairs are resolved by surrendering our ego at the Guru’s feet

Hoaa Aap Dhaeiaal Manahu Na Visaarian
Through your compassion, may I never forget your presence

Saadhh Janaa Kai Sang Bhavajal Thaarian
In friendship with those travelling on the path towards Self-
Realisation, we transcend the world ocean

Saakath Nindhak Dhusatt Khin Maahi Bidhaarian
In an Instant, cynics, slanderers and enemies are dissolved

This Saahib Kee Ttaek Naanak Manai Maahi
Taking this Master as my support, Naanak, fix this Presence in my mind

Jis Simrath Sukh Hoe Sagalae Dhookh Jaahi
In Mindful Awareness of this Presence, happiness comes as all suffering vanishes

God is merciful, and never forgets us.
God guides us, giving us good people to help us.
God does not allow hurt to come to us.
I take comfort in the thought of God.
When I remember God, I feel peaceful and happy
and all my pain departs.
