The Yamaha YZ250 has been around a long time and its a favorite for many racers and just regular riders.
2005 YZ250 Rebuild —

High lights—-
Bike was bought as a rolling chassis but the motor was in pieces and we knew the cylinder was in need of serious repair so Millennium helped get the cylinder back to new.
Once the cases were split we discovered that one was cracked internally and had to be replaced.

We got TMR to modify the Cylinder and Head.

Replaced the bearings and seals on the machine with Pivot Works kits.

For the cables we went with All Balls and for the brakes they offer full rebuild kits and that combined with the

Cerakote from Faster USA our brakes with the Tusk lines look full factory.
We wanted updated suspension so we went with 2011 YZ450 forks found for a great deal on CL

The frame was able to be buffed off and cleaned up.
The swing arm was so beat up that it was easier to just have our local Metal Polishing company buff away the scratches. When the polish goes away we just Scotch Bright the aluminum.

Why do people like the YZ250? Because it's the swiss army knife of 2 strokes. It's good in motocross, offroad racing and single track. It comes with awesome suspension. The engine is claw hammer reliable. A couple mods and it's competitive against newer 2T. You can put a WR400/426 transmission in it and it's a single track weapon. The same engine has been around since '99! Lots of aftermarket support. OEM parts are plentiful and worlds cheaper than anything other than Honda, and team red hasn't made a 2T for over a decade. Those are my reasons...

he talked about how a 4 stroker is Easier to ride on a track, didnt even talk about how much more fun a 2 stroke is on a track lol

Picked up a nice 2007 YZ250 last month. Haven’t been on a mx bike in 30 years. What a Blast!!

This is a legendary bike that just works all around! Simplicity and reliability. I applaud Yamaha for keeping this bike going and hopefully for many years to come

4 strokes of course have more linear power, but personally, I’m hooked on the 2 stroke hit

Traded in my KX450 for a YZ250.  Looks good, sounds good, smells good, feels good.  And easy to work on.

I love a Yz250 two stroke because it reminds me of my childhood.
Grew up on 2 bangers, had a couple 450 four strokes but I always seem to want to ride the 2 smoker

Because they're the only Japanese 2 stroke still being made. Yamaha have some idea of what people really care about. Not, just overly expensive, complex 4 Long live 2's!

I just did a 08' yz250 rebuild and i was blown away by how easy it was to rebuild. The OEM parts are very affordable and easy to get! I took a 2008 and spent around 1500 and made it look brand new!

Just bought and rebuilt an 06 yz250. Fun. Simple. Fun. And smells good. Also fun to ride, did I mention that?

I can answer this easily. They’re cheap, were ahead of their time 2 decades ago, affordable parts, very versatile bike, and it has plenty of power. Pretty simple.

I think alot of us love and support the yz125 and yz250 because YAMAHA is still awesome enough to continue offering these amazing bikes. I think if Suzuki Kawasaki and Honda got back in the game the support would be spread out again in the 2 stroke market. Let's face it. If you ain't Joe pro with someone paying the bill to fix your 4 stroke, most of us look at the cost as a killer expensive cost. So to avoid these expensive rebuilds we stick to 2 strokes. Just price a cylinder head, 4 valves, cam, timing chain, and piston for a four stroke and that explains everything. I've been there. Oil pump drive gear got taken out by a transmission gear tooth. 4700 bucks to rebuild my yz450f .

Absolutely love my 2018
Personally I feel like I ride a yz250 faster than a 450 anyway, all my friends say the same too. So grateful Yamaha still make these

The YZ is one of the most versatile MX bikes ever built along with the CR

Stoshua.

After owning a 2T I'm a 4T guy for sure. But it's good that Yamaha doesn't change these too much, makes parts more abundant and keeps cost of ownership low

Kills me when they call em beat up cause they are rode. That baby is in its prime as long as you keep all the bearings replaced and top end fresh.
