Questions have been raised about the state of our country's roads following a crash that claimed 21 lives on the N2 near Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal. Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula previously admitted that 80% of the national road network is past its 20-year design life. Driver behaviour is also a contributing factor to the carnage we've seen on our roads.

Road Freight Association CEO, Gavin Kelly, and Dr Joash Mageto from UJ's Transport And Supply Chain Department weigh in.

There are driver behaviour management tools out there for operators to use to effectively manage their driver's behaviour. There are systems that encourage coaching the risky behaviours before leading to a collision not after the fact. These outcomes can be prevented if operators and drivers are interested in the wellbeing of the public and their businesses #driverisk #driveriskkzn
