Two tips. In remake you can buy the weapons you missed in the Shinra building close to the first combat simulator. Tip two is for rebirth hard mode. If you need to heal and can’t get to a chocobo stop use team members that are not in your party. That way you save your mp for battles.

some good news: you still get the Red XIII cutscene if you skip the queen's blood tournament. id still recommend beating Red because the reward, assess earrings, allows you to free up a materia slot and still assess in the open world while maximising your materia growth

YESS. Thank you!! I don't understand people complaining how the side content ruins the pacing. It literally doesn't, you don't have to do it.
If you want good pacing, skip the side content then, or only do some. And yes, the Queen's Blood tournament is completely skippable.

You can use the HP/MP switch materia to recover MP on the free bench, but only one character at a time. Basically, put it on, rest, and take off after.
