James O'Brien 10 November 2017

IMPORTANT NOTICE: UPDATE: 1/10/17 - due to the pressure of exams through October & November the daily upload of multiple news items will cease with immediate effect. Occasional clips of significant importance may be uploaded, but not in the usual quantity.

21/9/17 - This channel is now sitting on only one copyright strike (expiring 30/11/17). As long as no further strike is incurred, the planned rotation to Still Incorrigible will be on hold.

My other YouTube channels search for: "Still Incorrigible" & "Incorrigible Forever"

Original notice: As a result of receiving a "copyright strike" this channel will be going on hiatus shortly. If a channel receives three such strikes it is automatically deleted by YouTube. The primary purpose of my YouTube channels is the preservation of a record of historical events as reported at the time and the receipt of a copyright strike imperils that goal.

As a result, in the coming weeks, new uploads will cease on this channel and resume on "Still Incorrigible". Future videos will contain more info as it becomes available.

Does working as a self employed driver for Uber stop you from going and trying to get other fares on your own?

As a black cab driver outside of london and a former private hire driver, I can say I am employed either way. Only difference is as a black cab driver I do not pay an operator.
If uber workers are classified as employees, then surely the whole private hire sector is also.
Uber takes, 25% of the drivers fare. A Private Hire Operator in my city charges £120 per week, around 15% of a drivers weekly fares.
Does this ruling not open the door to the private hire industry going down this rule of employed, not self employed.

It's funny how James O'Brien has never gone after job agency's taking away people rights! Let's just keep banging on about Uber

Incorrigible mention by O'Brien. More fuel to fire that Incorrigible is O'Brien ;-)

The ideal would be if Uber just acted as a connecting service without setting the prices. That way drivers could just use it and pay them a percentage as normal. That might also allow them to make larger profits without the need for more legislation because standard cabs would probably start using the service as well.

Uber which has up to 50, 000 drivers using its app in the UK, claims 80% of them would rather be classed as self employed.

If Uber drivers are treated as workers and not self-employed they will be entitled to sick pay, paid breaks, and minimum wage.

Workers are well within their right to want this, but even if 20% are happy being classed as self-employed and it has no impact on their health, then all this is doing is making Uber less competitive and we have to continue with ridiculously high taxi fares. This made transport services soooo much cheaper compared to rip off fares taxis were charging, but nope, some leftists who feel "exploited" have to ruin it for everyone else, both workers AND customers. Let the business be for fuck's sake you just potentially ruined a great business.
