'We’ve tried it every other way': Rishi Sunak defends illegal migration bill

The prime minister defended the government's new bill in a press conference on Tuesday, arguing the government had been left no choice but to adopt the 'tough' new laws to deter attempts at illegal entry to the UK.

'We have tried it every other way and it has not worked,' Sunak told reporters. He added: 'My policy is very simple: it is this country and your government who should decide who comes here, and not criminal gangs'.
