The Book - The Ultimate Guide to Rebuilding a Civilization Exclusive Kit Pledge Unboxing

It has been a while, but here is another unboxing type video.

I backed a project on Kickstarter some time ago, and it finally arrived. It's The Book by Timur, and its purpose is to jump-start society after an apocalyptic event. I like books like this, as well as artbooks and the like so I was interested enough to put some money into it.

The pledge level I selected included The Book itself, a digital copy, a gift box, A1 sized poster, and a bookmark. It also came with some stickers. I haven't received my slipcase or playing cards yet, unfortunately. Those were add-ons, so they'll probably ship later, assuming they didn't forget to send this to me.

It is quite extensive, this book. Fairly large too. It doesn't go too in-depth and is only intended as a (mostly serious) overview. A starting point and reference book, basically. I think the idea is that once it is known to be possible and you're pointed in the right direction, it'd be up to the reader to figure out how to actually make it a reality. This is of course largely for fun, and something to add to a book collection.

I think there is supposed to be a primer on basic mathematics somewhere in it, but I couldn't find it in my brief flip-through.

I would have LOVED this as a kid.. you have no idea (or maybe you do). I'm in my 30s and was raised very poor and yet was born a "nerd" or whatever you want to call it.. not the stereotype, im athletic and stuff too, what I mean is that I've always been extremely curious about the world I live in and craved science, philosophy, engineering, literature, and so on.. but I had very limited access and internet wasn't really common place, especially not where I'm from in the Appalachian mountains. I would try sooo hard at night to try to pick up PBS on my 13" CRT TV so I could watch Nova Science Now and other educational programming, as well as Austin City Limits. I digress..

I saw an ad for this book on YouTube and it's a very very rare example (maybe the only one in memory) of an advertisement that I actually clicked on and plan on buying. I'm going to buy a copy for one of my nieces who is alot like me in her love for the arts and science. Her mom and dad (my bro) even says she's like a female version of me. I can't wait.

Something like 5-10 years back there had been a startup organization that was planning on making a Big Box kit to rebuild civilization with that contained mech tech for the minor manufacturing of more complex things that was being presented as something that could be air dropped in more remote or isolated population places in response to un/natural disasters or other calamity and was said to have manuals and books like this. I wonder if they were affiliated with eachother... and I wonder what ever became of that project... hmmm wish I could remember the name.

“yeah…ball”

On a serious note, that book doesn’t seem like much of a “guide”. More like a picture book with some info added.

I didn’t read it but it section on dentistry was only a couple paragraphs. No way that covers even the basics.

I can't help but think from the images and videos I've seen of this book, that the paper appears to be poor quality and information in the book looks very general and not very detailed. The illustrations look good but would look better on a higher quality paper. I'd be interested to see how much people start selling these for in the next few years. I am expecting a lot to end up in garage sales going very cheap.

Paper? So outdated. I'll just access it on the internet if I ever need it in the future.

For a book that’s almost 200$ it’s beautiful but lacks real substance. I’d rather find the best books on those subjects whether it be Amazon or second hand and compile them together
