NFTs are, by default, a scam. You own nothing, except for a digital receipt saying you own something. If the game is turned off, your investment disappears. All NFTs have a fine print saying your down actually own the assets, just that they are being temporarily licensed to you.

honestly it's stuff like this that makes me think these fake developers think we farm sim gamers are "easy to fool" because we enjoy something so simple. we're not dumb and know our stuff, specially when they're trying to pull a fast one on us.

I just find it funny how most farming games have message about preserving nature, being conscious about what we do to the earth, and etc but then we have an NFT farming game. Just... what?

As soon as I heard "enhanced with modern technology" I said to myself "they're about to say blockchain/NFT's aren't they" the sooner the whole fad dies fully the better, because perhaps there's potential in the tech to be something but so far all it's used to do is to prove the idiom "a fool and his money are soon parted" true

Inspector Josh saves us from the blockchain farming game!
Honestly, a farming sim with NFTs in it was the last thing I expected from this vid; I thought it would be about wonky mechanics or bad demos, but NFTs are a way bigger red flag in my opinion

As an original backer of Farm Folks you have NO idea how pissed I am at these changes. I mean seriously who need a builder/PvP/monster and who the hell knows what else game? And the damn rabid backers have both said 'You have no right to complain' and 'Maybe this isn't the game for you' when I BACKED the frigging game based on the original premise, not this whatever the hell it is now game.

A thing that also wasn't mentioned in this video about NFTs is that there's usually a LIMITED NUMBER of them. I think I saw the Frost Hunter License had 409 out of 500 items sold. Outrageous costs aside, this means that at most only 500 players can ever even HAVE that enhanced game experience at any single time. Most of the people paying those ludicrous prices aren't doing it for the love of the game, they're thinking of it as buying an investment. So most likely a huge number of those people will never actually be long time players, and will instead just squat on the license hoping that OTHER long time players will buy the license off them.

And of course that's just whatever that silly pay to win license is. Wait till they try to introduce animals or outfits or what have you, all with limited number NFTs; so if you want a decent chicken you need to buy an NFT chicken off of someone in the marketplace for 50 real world dollars (after converting into crypto and with additional blockchain fees, of course).

It's a death spiral of no new players wanting to put ridiculous money into a game, while the small dedicated playerbase is really only there because they payed SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS to be there and are desperate to earn that investment back somehow. Almost every NFT game to date is like this.

I didnt know moonfrost was a crypto game. I was kind of excited for it... well now that excitement is dead

Ok but a studio being named RedPillz is already a red flag on its own

Original Farm folks backer here. I have long accepted that my money has gone down the drain. This new version of the game is NOTHING like the original. I've kept an eye on it here and there out of curiosity. However, now that I've seen they added guns, they've really lost the plot.

I took a first look at moonfrost and was like "Wow, this game is gorgeous and must be pretty fun too." and then you mentioned NFTS. How could such a good concept get ruined like this?

Part 2, please!!! I love these deep-dive videos, and you do such great research on this kind of content! Farm Folks and Moonfrost made my head hurt, like WTH devs.. I just want to do farming! I like simplicity in games.
See you next year, Josh! Thank you for being part of our 2024! Happy New Year!

1st. The Rancher: Gigantic open world inspired byHarvMoon, The Sims, and GTA with seamless multiplayer but only 14 devs with unknown experience working on it is already a red flag. It's not surprising they used assets flips, a clear sign that the game will probably end up lackluster and a flop. Making a farming game with gigantic map is not easy let alone open world, it'll probably ended up with the map feeling empty and lonely.

2nd. Farm Folks: Yeaaaah, the red flag is burning at this point.

3rd. Moonfrost: There's no red flag anymore, everything's red. Once NFT's involved, the game became more for business than fun. The amount of cheating and scams would be astronomical once real money's involved.

As a French from a rural area, Parisians and farm do not work together at all. They literally see farmers and countryside folks as inferiors (I grew up hearing the same "jokes" again and again about the countryside being empty and "cows do not count as inhabitants" when you tell them that, no, there are cities here) which is why Parisians aren't liked

geez the kickstarter red flags on Ranchers sounds like the game will wind up on kickscammers by slopes since overpromise for that small a team

Good thing that NFTs aren't allowed on Steam so none of these devs will ever grace my computer with their "games". That is, unless they will remove the NFT aspect.

Farm Folks lowkey just looks like a Fortnite wannabe game 😭

When I saw ur title, I thought Puffpals would be here considering what's happened this year: barely any news, like one alpha update (game is still very rough), contracts involving lawyers, etc

It feels like some of these games are repeating the same mistakes we seen with mmos 10 years ago of going too large in scope when it's already a struggle to have a consistent player base stay interested in your games.

Regarding Moonfrost, I’m really curious about the developers’ reasoning behind incorporating NFT elements. The functionality provided by the FROSTER-Hunter License could easily be sold as a DLC without needing to use NFTs. In the long run, having each player purchase a DLC and pay the developers directly would likely be more beneficial than having players trade the license among themselves in NFT form.

The only reason I can think of for them to sell it as an NFT is that they want to secure funding from NFT-related sponsors in the short term. Given that they’ve specifically implemented an in-game trading system for security, I’m willing to believe that their intention isn’t to scam anyone. However, prioritizing short-term funding over long-term sales still feels concerning.
