Shoei Ex Zero Motorcycle Helmet Review

The Shoei Ex-Zero blends retro MX styling with modern road-focused technical spec to produce a great looking new helmet, ideal for the Urban Rider. Now in stock:

Shoei expands its helmet range and introduces the EX-Zero: an undeniably classic looking helmet packed to the brim with modern features. It is based on Shoei's EX-series from the 1980s. The EX-Zero looks like a no-frills, hop on the bike and twist the throttle kind of helmet, but there's more than meets the eye. It houses a cleverly hidden dropdown CJ-3 visor which can easily be swapped out for a tinted alternative if you choose to. The shell is constructed using Shoei's Advanced Integrated Matrix technology, creating a lighter, more elastic shell that is still highly impact-absorbent and penetration-resistant. It comes in 3 shell sizes ensuring a perfect fit while keeping the profile nice and compact. The liner and pads are easily removable and washable. The viewport is nice and wide and houses the vast majority of goggles on the market (including the 100% Barstow goggles). Add an optional peak if you want to go for a more off-road look, or ride as is. Whatever your preference, Shoei created an awesome looking helmet with a spec-sheet to match!

I thought the bell looked a bit more originally retro but when tried on it was too narrow, while with the shoei the pressure was more dispersed (a good thing). On the bright side you end up with free internal visor with the Shoei.

I like this helmet. Great peripheral vision, I would imagine. Daft peak.

Great review. Such a beautiful helmet. In the review you said, " your head can be removed carefully and safely" because of the innovative cheek pad system. Is there an option to keep my head attached?

Great video, great helmet - Shoei have some superb lids at the moment.
I used to be an Arai man through and through but their refusal (I believe) to do things like modular helmets, drop down visors, retro styled helmets is losing them market share - me included.
Nice one guys.

Very good and detailed review ! First of all thank you for that ! I just have one question as I want to order this exact model. The only thing I want to know is if the internal visor can be removed and replaced quickly? I wanted to get a smoked and a clear visor so I can install the tinted/smoked one in sunny weather conditions and replace it with the clear one for night rides.

Thanks in advance for your answer ! :-)

Does the chin bar form part of the protection as it does with their more normal full face helmets of is it weaker and more for styling?

Where did you get the yellow brim? That’s a cool look!

Hi, I'm afraid of being unable to breath while riding high speed. Does the opened front direct all the wind to the nose zone?

I just bought one. Very light. Fit is just a tad more narrow than my other Shoei’s. The XS, S, M all use the same shell then the large is its own shell. I normally wear M so stuck with that especially as I didn’t want to jump up a shell size

It looks like there is more chin room compared to a Ryd?

Really cant choose what to get as my first helmet.

Stand between this, bell bullitt and Biltwell lanesplitter for my virago 535...
Love the style on all of them so really hard choice.

Great review tho, helped a lot!

Back in the day(1970s) Arai(新井) was the only game in town and cheap to boot, open face Arai was the one everyone was wearing..
Shoei(昭栄?) didn't even exist(or in its infancy as a company).
Nowadays all top racers wear Arai(or Shoei) and the prices are prohibitive .

Time flies.

Did you actually go out riding with it? I mean, it can look as good as it wants but how loud is it etc?

Do these come with the cap visor or is that accessory as well? Since the price is high I’m hoping it’s included.

Bought a ex zero tc-2 at the nec bike show last week, waiting for it to turn up and also coming with the black peak although I would of preferred a white peak to match but might look into painting it or finding a different brand white peak that would fit it ????

Can you give me the name of the peak you use ? Thanks à lot
