The guy who asked about turning on the robot had an Aperture Science lanyard. This pleases me.

Really clever system. I can see how useful this could be to research into plants of all types.

hello, I had an idea, about this visualizing the roots, is it possible that you feed the plants with radio actives particles and then observe how they get absorbed by the roots and basically by measuring and tracking their path we could have an estimation of the pattern and appearance of the roots.

2:30 Aperture Science lanyard. Amazing.

Couldn't you use some kind of alternative substance for soil that contains all the needed nutrients but has a different density?

Hey guyz, if it possible to have more episode on the image processing in medical field MRI, PET, SPECT, etc

I would love to see more about the algorithms they're using to analyze the scanned images. They must be insanely complex.

It's just a CT machine. for plants.

I want a time-lapse of roots growing in a plant. Heck, I want the entire plant at once, starting from the seed. Maybe they should also try fungi and animals.

I'm not sure if you have heard of eyewire, but they have the exact same type of segmentation problem. Their solution was to distribute the problem to users and turn it into a game of sorts.

So do you ever find any cube roots with your computer?  ;-)

Very cool! do dentists use something similar? because you can have 3d jaw scans as well.

If the subjective human analysis takes so much of your time to determine the root structure, why don't you do like what the EyeWire team did and crowd source the analysis via a game-like interface? Mapping the retinal connectome seems to be a much more difficult problem than this, so it shouldn't even be that arduous for the participants.

Sounds similar to seismic 3D image analysis, but on a smaller scale.

Can you apply a deep learning algorithm to better differentiate the roots from the soil? Apparently it's being used to better differentiate cancer cells from non-cancer cells, and to map neurons.

Why not using neurals networks to decide whether or not it is a root ?

How much training does one need to accurately distinguish root from dirt?
Why don't they implement a system like the one at EyeWire where a global community of volunteers compete to map the branches of a neuron?

Does the robot have the tendency to cause frequent resonance cascades?

the pipes the flower pots are made of. Are they made by Wavin?
