Who else loves the picturesque quality of terrace farming. These are things so precious that they are priceless.

Visited Zhongdian/Yunnan almost 20 years ago. That time it was very quiet and we were the only tourist group there. I even bought a bangle with a stone from the temple as a souvenir blessing. That time the road was bumpy as they were still building an access road to Zhongdian. China is very beautiful and I love China.

If anyone thinks these people are poor then you only see with eyes . You need to see things with the heart . They are richer than the people that lived in today so called modern society. They lived in peace and enjoy every moment they have . They have no worry of Corrupt Politicians that constantly disrupt people's lives, no worry about crimes, no freaking tax, no bills or mortgage or rent and no filty garbage and pollution . No money can buy those things in today so called rich develope society... it's all hectic and Chaos, traffic jam, road rage, ethic hatred, political disengagement, riots, shooting, extortion, theft...it is hell..we ain't rich..they are with harmony .

It's a great place to visit ....it shows serenity, peace and humble lifestyles. Even though I have been to many places in the world....it should interest me when I am physically able. Thanks

Thanks a million for this interesting report with details on the people in Shangri-La.
Today, Shangri-La and its comparable places ( e.g. Bhutan) represent the richest areas on earth where happiness, compassion & the interconnected human spirit flourish.

These settlements are found in a mystical, hidden landscape where nature is a blessing but also the major challenge to human activities (i.e. thin oxygen in high altitude air, potential earthquakes, bitter cold for 6 months of the year, ...etc).
China is fortunate to have still pockets of communities like Shangri-La living with self sufficiency, sustainable agriculture & yak/sheep husbandry; & above all, peace, harmony & contentment.
It is a blessing that they are not yet contaminated by the modern artificial concepts of wealth.

It is nothing like the movie but the real Shangri-la in Yunnan has its charm of beautiful people and mountainous scenaries. Enjoyed it tremendously.

So many things in China are very beautiful with dramatic landscapes, thousands of varied ethnic groups living in harmony with nature.

Went there like few years ago, very nice place and worth to visit. The people there gather at 6pm in the town center and dance everyday

Pure pleasure to view this video. Prophecies speak of a renewed earth to come
and I wonder if this Tibetan village of Shangri-La is a model for what is to come.

The scene of a woman carry a basket on her back & women harvest their crops are so familiar to my parents once agriculture life style:) Could this have been what I thought it was(the people) :) Quite interesting video:)

The mountain fort in Northeastern Pakistan is also a great candidate for the possible inspiration of Shangri-la.

In real life, Buddhists outside of Tibet have launched wars in India to spread Buddhism, but relative to other religions it was small scale and short-lived. So, for them warfare is a aberration in their history.

I admire the Buddhist faith and try to incorporate some of the principles into my own life. If people lived as Tibetan Buddhists, we wouldn't have warfare, pollution or destructive animal husbandry.

Apart from western materialist perspective of this video, I enjoyed seeing the natural beauty and the beautiful people. I believe that the real Shangri-la is is not of this 3D world. - Best wishes

Work is a good thing. That doesn't ruin the idea that it's paradise. In fact, without work, what are we to do? Work gives life routine and purpose.

I wish I had meaningful work. What is more meaningful than providing food for your community?

The rhythms of rural life related to agriculture prove comforting and a blessing.

The most value inside the Buddhist temple are Buddha's teaching, after you understand Buddha's teaching gemstones gold just an object with no value.

Shangri la is not a place, it's state of mind and enlightenment.
