Like most songs from my Evolution of 1990's Worship medley, this 1994 song didn't cross my radar until the 2000's. When I worked as a worship intern at my church during grad school, one of my jobs was to arrange new lead sheets for our vocalists to learn consistent harmonies. The Potter's Hand was among those songs. The chord structure moves in and out of dissonance and tension, like a piece of clay assuming various forms before reaching its final shape and baked in the kiln. None of us has reached our final shape, when we will be like Christ and be able to know Him fully. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit in the process of sanctification, as His power transforms us. Sometimes we find ourselves in twisty, awkward shapes, but by faith we know that God will complete his masterpiece - us!

I remember my old church used to sing this song repeatedly only on Sunday nights when I was a kid in the 2000s. I remember that I didn't like it as a kid. I caught myself humming this song a few days ago. I hadn't sung it since 2002. Back when I was 10.

It seems we so often forget we are the clay and He is the Potter. All, ALL, the glory we may display is from Him and is His. Rom9:20, Isa64:8, and my favorite 2Cor4:7.

Aww, brought back sweet memories of a dear lady who sang this at my childhood church.
It's definitely a prayer of faith, because being molded by God isn't always comfortable, but it's always good.
