it’s inevitable to have bad days with horses, love how you posted the video anyways to show how it doesn’t always go to plan!

That actually was REALLY GOOD!!! For start, watch her beginning to end and look at how clever she is! She got really good and balanced by the end of her course---my guess is she was just so distracted with everything, she was not paying attention and getting a bit flat to her jumps, but the clever mare really did settle half way through the course! I think you did a GREAT JOB!!!!

Hmmm. People who think a pelham is a harsh bit need to review horses 101. For start, some horses seek comfort in feeling contact--I've got a huge horse I'm working with and we went to a pelham and what a happy boy he is!! Our goal is to flat with a snaffle, but right now, for his work, he panics in a snaffle but loves the pelham, He reminds me a lot of Fiona actually. I'll try to get video of him jumping Weds and show you he is very much the same--a bigger horse/chunky who has issues balancing (his right lead--ugh! Fiona is way smarter ;) ) .

For those who are uneducated, the pelham creates a more solid feel that, if a horse is not balanced, will need more rider assistance to help them learn to use their hind end. Over time, as the horse develops muscle and understand how to balance themselves, we need this less and less and eventually can change to a snaffle. It's all about the process of training. Saying something is 'harsh' is ridiculous. Spurs, a crop, a regular bit, bitless---anything in the wrong hands is harsh. It's knowing your horse and how to use the tools that is what makes working with your horse successful.

I love how you never go in with the I HAVE TO WIN attitude, you use shows as experience for your horses so that they can learn and grow with new and exciting things without being under pressure to constantly win and do amazing every time. You also never blame the horse which of other people do! Its so inspiring to see and I think loads of equestrians can really learn from your positive approach to things. Love your accounts so much!!! xxxx

This is just part of horse ownership. Working with different horses, especially difficult ones is just going to make you a better trainer. I love your attitude and how you don't get angry at the horse, but figure out what you need to do to make her more successful. GREAT video~

My horse decided to randomly become a bucking bronco twice last ride and I ended up in the ground...twice...Within 10 minutes. (We do think my horse's problem was pain; the vet is coming out on Wednesday.) I appreciate your putting your real experiences on here because after the severe confidence decline from my last ride, I am glad to see that even you and Fiona have your off days. You rode her well and hey, it's just more miles for Fiona!

Fiona looks great and her jump looks really nice to me! Good job with your rounds even if they weren't the best ever.

I love seeing videos that are real, and not only post the good days. It's so much relate-able this way, and we all go through these days. Two steps forward, three steps back.. ongoing cycle with horses but all worth it <3 love your videos!

I love how you show that not every showjumping round is perfect. Lovely to see how you improved too :)

Thank you so much for being so honest you have taught us so much by how honestly you share your riding / training experience! This was a brilliant and inspiring blog for those of us bringing on young horses/ponies. Thank you 💛

You and Fiona are a vision, even on a hard day. I’m a western rider and don’t know much about jumping. But I can see you’re working at a high level of difficulty, still flying- amazing. Most importantly, you supported her when she needed it most. 💛 Rock on. It will pay off.

I train at jag every week. And it took my horse a good while to get used to it. Don’t worry 😉 it’s known to be quite a spooky arena. The first time I took my horse to a show there we got eliminated, but know we go to clear nearly every time. At least you can learn from it. It really is lovely place once your horse gets used to it ❤️
