DVO ONYX D1 38 Long-Term Review

DVO Suspension has recently released their take on an enduro fork with 38mm stanchions; the Onyx D1 38. This fork is packed with new features and some clever designs that can only be truly explained by the designers themselves. We met the guys at DVO at a local trail so they could help us set up and get a first impression of this new fork while giving us an understanding of how it works. We spent some time riding with them and then took a couple of forks home with us to test on our favorite local trails to see what we thought. After a bit of time on the bike with the Onyx D1 38 leading the way, we have a review that we're ready to share with you. It's a fork that we think may change the way suspension is looked at and designed and think it's something you need to consider throwing on your bike as your next upgrade.

Switched to DVO in 2016 from Fox/rockshox/Marz. Never went back. Best suspension hands down.

I run the previous Gen Onyx SC D1, purchased it last yr from DVO. Their base plush setup for 170-175lb. rider is almost spot on. I saw the debut of the new Topaz at last years Taiwan International Bike Show. Yet, you spoke nothing of the new Topaz shock after the intro, what happened? I’ve been waiting on a release/review to make a buyers decision. Mainly because I’m in the market for the Jade X coil as I prefer how much better coil tracks over air. No, the additional weight of coil does not matter to me.

i like my DVO diamond. it's a good performer and i like the fact that they're california based. however...DVO, PLEASE make a longer fender kit that actually does something for wet weather riding. I beg.

you pulled that 360 at the Tarzan movie pit in Hope town/Simi Valley.. I did the same exact move at the same spot back in 50 now I can't do 360s anymore...ahhh good times. and I only ride DVO..good for my wrists.

If this is anything like the Onyx E1 on my Rail, which is WAY more plush and compliant than the Zeb it replaced, it might just replace said E1, which I'll fit to my Reign...

What's the hydraulic ram for on the fork and rear shock? Why is this applied? It won't be standard with the shocks that would have been helping alot cloud your judgment on the fork there! Is it some live thing like fox use for auto adjustment?

No seems to be answering this question:
How does it compare to a Fox 38, or Zeb?

Since it's quite different from the rest I'm surprised it's still called the onyx, a new name would be appropriate?
Is it smoother than a zeb?
Are the internals really green? 😂 Woaaaw
