You forget that they also slagged Edward Heath the conservative leader (and PM from 1970-74) in the next line. They were mostly mad because now that the band was doing well, the government was taking most of their money. (By 1966 they were in the 'super rich' 94% tax bracket, so it literally was 'one for you, nineteen for me.)
