The Sleeping Beauty mine is in the Sleeping Beauty mountain range of Arizona, and this Arizona turquoise is some of the most beautiful ever discovered. It has the perfect turquoise blue color with very little veining. The mine has closed which has driven the prices up in recent years, but there is still some on the market today. Thank you for the interesting info about turquoise, a stone I have always loved. Even though I know the purer color is better, I never much minded the matrix in turquoise, thought it gave the stone a nice individuality and character. My "engagement" ring was a turquoise that my husband bought me before we married, in the 1970's, when we were both college students and poor as church mice - we couldn't spring for a diamond or anything else.

Finally a video on turquoise! ;) I hadn't heard of Sleeping Beauty but I have a small collection of turquoise jewelry. Have you ever done the Turquoise Trail? Once, on our way back from Santa Fe we stopped in Cerillos at the Cerillos Turquoise Mining Museum. I purchased a small pair of earrings. When I make it to the Houston rodeo I always scour the turquoise jewelry. Most of it is overpriced but I've been able to score a few deals. My favorite is a pair of white buffalo turquoise earrings set in silver with beautiful details stamped in. I sent you a photo of those recently. I had them appraised for about $250 but I found them on etsy for only about $30!
