FRIENDLY DOG SALAD (1 salad)
1 lettuce leaf
1 canned pear half
1 canned prune (I used dried)
2 canned mandarin orange segments
1 maraschino cherry
1 raisin

1. Wash lettuce leaf and pat dry with towel. Place on salad plate. Lift 1 pear half, 1 prune, and 2 mandarin orange segments from cans and 1 maraschino cherry from jar with fork and drain (refrigerate remaining fruit with syrup for another time).
2. Place the pear half cut side down on the lettuce leaf. Cut the prune lengthwise in half with scissors and take out pit (I used a pitted prune). Place one of the prune halves at the large end of the pear half for the ear (Eat the other prune half!).
3. Scoop out tiny hole in the pear half for the eye with a teaspoon. Place 1 raisin in the hole. Cut the maraschino cherry in half with scissors. Place one half at the top of the narrow end of the pear half for the nose (eat the other cherry half!). Use the mandarin orange segments for the collar.

QUICK-ENERGY PICKUPS (makes about 30)
3 or 4 square graham crackers
1c powdered sugar
1c crunchy peanut butter
1c semisweet chocolate chips
1/2c instant nonfat dry milk
3Tbsp water

1. Crush 3 or 4 graham crackers with your fingers onto sheet of waxed paper.
2. Mix remaining ingredients thoroughly in bowl.
3. Shape teaspoonfuls of the mixture into 1" balls. Roll the balls in extra graham cracker crumbs until coated.
4. Arrange coated balls on un-greased cookie sheet and refrigerate about 20 minutes or until firm.
Note: In place of the graham crackers, you can use 1/2c prepared graham cracker crumbs or 2/3c flaked coconut.

NO-CRUST WIDE-EYED PIZZAS (4 servings)
1 - 8oz can tomato sauce
1lb ground beef
1/2c packaged dry bread crumbs
1/2tsp salt
1/2tsp oregano
2 pimento stuffed green olives
2 black olives
2oz shredded mozzarella cheese
2oz shredded cheddar cheese
4 slices canned or jarred pimiento

1. Heat oven to 425.
2. Measure out 1/2c of the tomato sauce (you'll also use the sauce remaining in the can, so keep it handy).
3. Mix the ground beef, 1/2c bread crumbs, the 1/2c tomato sauce, 1/2tsp salt, and 1/2tsp oregano in bowl with fork.
4. Divide the ground beef mixture into 4 equal parts. Place the parts several inches apart on an un-greased jelly roll pan. Pat each into a 4 1/2" circle about 1/2" thick. Pinch the edge of each circle to make a little stand up rim.
5. Pour about 2Tbsp of the remaining tomato sauce into the center of each circle and spread it to the edge.
6. Bake in 425 oven for 15 to 20 minutes (ask someone else to help you decide when the pizzas are done if you're not sure).
7. While the pizzas are baking, cut olives crosswise into 4 slices each on a cutting board.
8. Remove pan from oven and turn off oven. Sprinkle each pizza with about 2Tbsp shredded mozzarella cheese and 2Tbsp cheddar cheese. Use the olive and pimiento slices to make the eyes and mouth. Return the pizzas to a warm oven and heat about 5 minutes or until the cheese melts.

I have only recently discovered your channel and I am bingeing galore, my dear. I am 68 years old. So much older than you, but feel so much like a Kindred Spirit. I made the ghost with flaming eyes out of this cookbook for my daughter on Halloween when we had a blizzard and she couldn’t go trick or treating. It saved the day. She now has a son, so I gifted the cookbook to her. The story about Dottie chewing the corner of your cookbook brought me to tears. The fonts you love, the music, the dishes. It’s like you were born in 1956 like me. 😮. I just adore your channel, and you!

I wish the Food Network would discover you and you could have your own show on TV.

I received a Girl Scout badge for making dinner one time. The dessert was a pear half made to look like a mouse. My Mom bought a bag of sliced almonds for me to use just 8 slices (4 pairs of mouse's ears). I forget the rest, but I'm still grateful for my family's forebearance that day!

I also was a child cookbook reader. I would also stare at the photos and try to imagine or interpret them. When I was a kiddo, I also watched PBS cooking shows like Julia child as much as I enjoyed a cartoon, probably more.
These are some of my favorite cookbooks and I appreciate the memories and joy your channel brings!

It would be so cute to have your mom on the channel and reminisce while cooking together. ❤😊

💝I would read my junior cookbook for hours back in the 50s. I loved every recipe my mom let me make. I gave the cookbook you are using today to my children. It has been used to death. Yes, we remember every favorite recipe. So happy to see you cooking from It! A big Thank You! Just wonderful! ❇❇❇

When I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes so on personal pizza night I bought large portobellos and made personal pizza for me with them as my "crust" it was delicious and my kids always turn their personal pizzas into pieces of edible art.

I love cookbook for kids too. When I was young and fascinated by foods and cooking, the 1965 version was available. I LOVED that book. I had made numerous things from that book - Madhatter’s Meatballs, Spanish Rice, Carrot Curls, and soup combos (canned soup mixed with tomato juice or another canned soup) are things I’ve made and enjoyed. The plain muffin recipe I still make occasionally - plain or I’ll add choc chips. A good recipe that comes out every time. As a kid, cooking was joy and independence for me. Thank you for this video and your joy of that cookbook.

Seeing you get teary-eyed over your beautiful girl made me tear up. I know how hard it is. Thank you Anna. I don't have children either but I've been a part of children's lives since I was a teenager. Don't know if you'll see this because I'm binging your older videos today and I'm enjoying it so much but I hope you're having a wonderful day!

When I was a child I had that book but the spiral bound version. I think it had a white cover with a drawing of a girl and a boy on it. I remember that they had a recipe for Ants on a Log in it. I used to use that.

My favorite part of your videos is when you talk about the cookbook and share the pictures with us!

I have four kids three girls and one boy. It’s my son that loves to be in the kitchen. The other night he made a delicious broccoli carrot cheese soup with baked bread. Amazing! His cookies are delicious too.

You're one of my favorite channels to watch in the mornings to calm my anxiety because your videos just feels so cozy: your speaking about things you're passionate about, cooking delicious food, set in actual kitchen, the lighting's not too bright, no music. I'm from the other side of the ocean from you but somehow this feels like home. Thank you.

What a fun video! I teach a cooking class for kids at the library, so I’m going to try these recipes.

I feel like that little doggy salad would be pretty cute in a bento box. I bet kids would love a surprise lunch like that. Serving it on top of some cottage cheese would be good.

I had that cookbook also as a kid. Makes me happy to see someone else enjoying it. I'm pretty sure I did make the coconut version of those peanut butter balls. I know I made the baloney cups, the pizza burgers, the watermelon star, and maybe even the ski chalet. Oh and the ghost cake from the other video. And yes, those photos are seared into my brain!
