Thank you for this. So hard to find mono originals on YouTube, where everything is "improved", "BEST VERSION!", and otherwise mucked with and disimproved. Mono is "bad" because it isn't, uh, it isn't stereo guys, and stereo is, you know, like GOOD, and mono is BAD because like, you can't hear it on both sides! But this is how Phil Spector produced it, so it would sound rich and textured on AM radio, which was MONO. LIKE THIS. I have been trying VERY hard to find examples of how the Wall of Sound was originally supposed to sound, and there aren't many on YouTube where nobody wants to hear that ratty old mono. It was purposely very compressed, with the sounds of the instruments smeared together like an impressionist painting. But no, when the recording is remastered/improved, the individual parts are pulled apart, the strings over HERE, the percussion over HERE, the chorus over HERE, etc. etc., so that it sounds just like a modern recording! Forget about that Wall of Sound shit, eh? The original, haunting effect is completely gone and it might as well be any old recording.
