Jeff Durbin Confronts The Woke Church

Warning: This clip is not for those with commitments to "pious" language that would make the prophets look bad (they often used worse). Pastor Jeff Durbin confronted the modern "woke" church at the recent Fight, Laugh, Feast Conference in Nashville. He said some things that we believe needed to be said. He argued that we're now in a fight. We need to say what the prophets said and do what they did.

Hands down the most powerful true thing I have heard in years. Praise God for men who are faithful enough to stand up and say it like it truly is.

Go back and listen again. I missed the first time too. Got caught up on the word and missed the whole message. You have to listen a few times. He spoke Truth. God's Truth and no not at all offended me. Mature Christians understand what he preached. Powerful.

this is fighting talk - I may be wrong but I suspect this is kind of how Elijah taunted the prophets of baal as they danced and howled and sliced themselves

I'm so glad I discovered Jeff through a friend of mine, it seems to be very rare to find pastors who are truly bold in their faith anymore.

I copied this from a brother’s post on Facebook but I totally agree.

Pastor Mike Ricarrdi, an elder at Grace Community Church posted this today.

“Arguing that Christians may use profanity on the basis of Philippians 3:8 does little more than reveal one's ignorance. The notion that "skubalon" was basically a Greek curse word is a myth.

I've always found Phil Johnson's comments on this matter to be helpful. Phil says, "The word is more like the English term excrement. In fact, it had a broader range of semantic meanings, more akin to the English term 'waste.' It's fairly common in secular Greek literature, and while it describes the worst kind of filth from the sewer, there's no stigma of inappropriateness attached to the use of the word itself -- just like the English expression 'filth from the sewer' avoids the cultural stigma of the s-word and some of its borderline variants. Since Paul expressly forbade the use of language that was deemed taboo, to insist that he himself did so in Philippians 3 is exegetically irresponsible."

This is an important point. Likely just weeks or months after Paul wrote Philippians 3:8, he wrote this in Ephesians 5:1-6:

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; **and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, ** or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience."

Those "empty words" include those which would seek to persuade Christians that Paul was using foul language in one of his letters, while expressly forbidding it in another of his letters written just weeks later.

In reality, the etymology for "skubalon" comes from the Greek phrase "to tois kusi ballomenon, " which means, "that which is thrown to the dogs" (i.e., refuse) (see the entry in the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament). This makes good sense contextually, in light of the fact that Paul has just called the Judaizers "dogs" in verse 2, playing on their hatred of Gentiles -- often calling them dogs -- and showing them that they are as unclean as they suppose the Gentiles to be.

Dirty words were available to Paul, and he chose not to use a word that was "filthy, " "coarse, " or "foolish" (cf. Eph 5:3-4), but rather a strong word that conveyed severity without breaching the bounds of propriety and wholesomeness.

So no, Paul did not use foul language in Scripture. Let's stop perpetuating that myth.

And let's repent of the notion that God would ever sanction the violation of the commands of Scripture in order to make the Scriptures clear to others. We can't serve the interests of heaven by using the language of hell..”

The destructive liberation theology has taken over the catholic church, and I fear it's starting to make it's way through protestant and evangelical churches. I see so many of my fellow Christians seeking acceptance from society rather than God and looking to politicians instead of God, and it terrifies me. Thank you Jeff for standing up and preaching the WORD in a time when it's so desperately needed.

“In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.” - C.S. Lewis

All of Jesus' harsh language does not involve or invoke expletives/curse words though... so, not sure what Jeff is on about. Again, nothing in Scripture suggests we should ever curse.

Jesus always, told the truth. Every word from his heart, mind and mouth. Was pure truth.

Col 3:8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

Col 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Respectfully, confronting sin with sin is not edifying to Christ and further prostitutes His bride to continue Durbin’s analogy.
