Very interesting, Tom, and beautifully explained. Being neither Jewish, nor Catholic, I had never heard of this book. If I understood correctly, it is considered canonical by both Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics and the Greek text was known, but the Hebrew text was only discovered in 1896. Fascinating.

This was a great video! I don't think I'd ever heard of this document before, though I've learnt about other rediscovered documents in the Torah Tuesday class I used to take when I lived in Albany.

I took pictures of the genizah in one of the synagogues I visited in Tzfat, the holy, mystical, artsy city I hope to live in when I move to Israel. There were lots of falling-apart old books on the shelves behind the glass doors in that room.

I’m now approaching the end of my reading of the Bible. I already decided I’m going to restart it on January 1 along with the Catechism in a Year reading.
I hope you’ll continue with a series on the Books of the Bible. 😊

Looking forward to this series. I went thru the Bible in a Year podcast in 2021 and the book of Sirach was probably my favorite of the deuterocanonical books (although I loved them all).

Delighted to come across this . I've just started my third Bible read through. This time I'm reading the The Hebrew Bible in the order of the Jewish faith .( It gets confusing as the wisdom books in Judaism are different to those you mentioned ). Job is my favourite book and so now I guess I'm revealed as a rationalist !

So great Tom! The Hebrew scripture is a whole cosmos which I'm always tempted to fall into. Although the wisdom books, along with the prophets, are my favorite books of the bible, I haven't yet read the book of Sirach (I'm too in love with the King James Version, despite it's omissions).

Can't wait to learn more.
