A quick visit to Bowring Park and a jaunt through some of scenic downtown.

In 1911, Bowring Brothers, a successful trade and shipping firm, commemorated their one hundredth business anniversary in Newfoundland by giving the City of St. John's a 20 hectare (50 acres) recreational park as a token of their appreciation to the local community. The park was officially opened on July 15, 1914.

Today, Bowring Park is over 81 hectares (200 acres).

Downtown St. John’s was initially a commercial trading outpost for Europeans engaged in the fishing industry. While the fishery is still important, today the City is the main service centre for the province's offshore oil and gas industry. Downtown contains a mix of 19th-century buildings and cultural attractions. Lively bars are clustered along nightlife hub George Street, while the dining scene features seafood restaurants and gastropubs.
