Australia's nuclear submarines ahead of schedule

Australia is set to receive its first nuclear submarine at least five years ahead of schedule after America agreed to fast-track the project.

Defence Minister Peter Dutton has revealed he expects the first vessel to be completed in the early 2030s – well ahead of the 2040 estimate.

He said the level of cooperation from the United Kingdom and United States has allowed the project to advance at a quicker pace than he could have imagined since the creation of the AUKUS pact in September.

At this point, "ahead of schedule" means absolutely nothing.

It's definitely easier for Electric boat to expand infrastructure in US then try and start from scratch in Australia 👍

French: eh, you'll get your subs when we get around to it.
American: you want it sooner? Well, the customer is always right we'll fast track it.

Hopefully the earlier arrival can be accelerated further.

Love it. Also, our cold fusion power plants are now 20 years ahead of schedule to break ground in 2075.

What an absolute crock. Declaring a month after changing their minds that they are five years ahead of a schedule they have little control over, and Skynews reports this as fact with a straight face. Honestly this is the best standup comedy show in town.

Just sell the Aussies USS Barb or USS Tang (3rd and 4th Virginia Class Block V boats) when they are due to be commissioned in ~2025. For the 2nd and 3rd boat it can be complete Virginia Class barrel section assemblies from Newport News and Electric Boat with all the fittings installed which they weld together themselves. For subsequent boats they can have as much or as little help as they want.
--
Meanwhile, if they want they can have any three VLS equipped Flight II Los Angeles Class boats recently decommissioned for $1 if they'll pay for their refueling and reactivation. They can have the AN/BQQ-10 package and other upgrades too if they want to pay for them. This should allow them to start working up SSN crews today.

By the time these things get built you will probably be able to track them on a mobile phone.

That’s funny because there is no schedule.
