Johnny Otis - Country Girl bass cover

Показать описание
Since last weekends rendition of Little Richard’s Good Goopy, Miss Molly; a) I’ve had a rather full on few days and b) when I can, I’ve been grooving to the 12-bar.
I happened across this song, Country Girl, by Johnny Otis on Thursday and loved the feel of the song, even though I wasn’t bowled over by the lyrics, which are certainly of their time, (1960, to be precise).
Anyway, in deciding to cover it, I also decided to edit out some of the vocal, which was delivered by Delmar Evans & Johnny Otis.
The complication with this song is staying on top of the groove. And stay on top of the groove I did, 6 times. Yes, the baseline is in fact 6 individual complete recordings 😉
You can see that I’m playing my ultra-modern Ibanez EHB1000S, but with foam shoved under the strings, near the bridge to try to get a more muffled tone. I actually quite like the sound that you get doing this and I’m tempted to leave the foam there 🤣. I was also quite surprised that it did not push the bass out of tune; one of the things that is remarkable about these basses is just how stable they are. The bass was played into the Hotone Ampero One (clean bass tone), and on into Garage Band.
