As someone who has personally had alcohol induced pancreatitis, I can attest that it is the most painful thing that someone can go through. I haven't had any alcohol since, that was 23 years ago

I’m a major alcoholic in recovery. I have chronic pancreatitis, became type one diabetic and can say pancreas pain is insanely brutal for quite a while. Even now it swells up from the damage done already!

So what probably happened in medical terms is he got acute alcoholic pancreatitis and formed a pseudocyst that then burst (i.e. the alcohol made the pancreas get very inflamed and a blister formed on the pancreas and those things can grow to be pretty big in size…. Though they usually don’t rupture)
