I like the points you made about being prepared and caring for the people you are debating. I think another aspect to what these 3 men have in common is that they keep their cool because they understand that they separate the person from their ideals. So when they are seemingly being attacked, it is understood that what is actually happening is that the "attacker" is actually attacking what these men represent, not them personally which breeds compassion for the other person.

Thank you for posting this. I think we western Christians really underestimate apologetics paired with empathy and a willingness to understand how others perceive what they think is true. Understanding their paradigm is living. Not capitulation but understanding and then reaching

I believe the key to an effective witness is to take yourself out of the mix. If they are opposing what you are saying, they are opposing Christ, not you. All I want to do is bring the truth to bear and if, in the end, the one I am witnessing to rejects it, then it is on them. I have served my Master well and I am content with that.

The Bible doesn’t say “leave it to the extroverts” BUT if you read Acts, the apostles definitely had enough sense to work with their strengths and used certain people for certain parts of their ministry.

P. Durbin is a disciple of P. James A. White who wanted to learn what a LDS (Mormon) believed, so he bought the entire library that was available to anyone who wanted to further their knowledge in LDS teachings. A few years after he purchased these and started confronting them with this knowledge, they removed the books from public and members, only those seeking the priesthood are allowed to buy and study them. That is how he knows what they are about, and is confident. James A. White wrote a book of his back and forth letters that he wrote to an LDS missionary who looked forward to the challenge. It is a good read for anybody interested. Called letters to a LDS missionary.
