Growing grapes in Florida has been challenging for many growers, but Paul Zmoda has it down to a science in his backyard botanical sanctuary in Riverview, FL! We were invited to bring the camera along to catch Paul pruning his bunch grapes, so that we can all learn from this valuable demonstration.

We hope to head back to feature more of Paul's fruit trees throughout the various seasons, so be sure to check back in!

Thank you Paul. I’ve watched about 10 videos on pruning grapes and this demo finally made it click.

Out of the many good pruning videos out there, Paul Zmota does a most excellent job showing and explaining the how's and why's of pruning grapes.

Thank you so much. I have been stressing for years, trying to do right by my (deceased) father's grapevines. Finally I got the clear, wise instructions that I so much needed. 🍇😊

Im glad to see that pruning them back hard was the right way. I have been pruning mine back very hard for years and they come back strong and produce well each season. In the northern cold states I've found that Somerset seedless, Edelveiss, and frontenac have survived the best in harsh winters (-30 temps).

My grape arbor was planted by my gparents in the mid 1940's. Grapes get sweeter as the plant ages. I prune mine while they are frozen (Northern Illinois) so they can heal without bugs.

Thanks re the comment about not cutting close to the bud like you might with a fruit tree or a rose - very good info on the drying out. Much appreciate your time.

This is awesome; please do more grape videos about general care, growing organically while winning against disease pressure, and where to buy the right varieties in the Tampa area <3

Thank God for guys like Paul Zmoda; keeping our uncommon varieties from going extinct. Oh ya, anyone who put a thumbs down on this is really wimpy.

Now how did YouTube's algorithm know I needed a grape video? I have a vine that has been treated badly but won't die. Never been trellised. Also got some seeds from a trip to an vineyard. Thanks for the info.

I really enjoyed and learned a lot from Paul, great questions too! I'm a little late watching this. Lots of vineyards around us and wild grapevines on the fence rows. Sadly the Japanese Beetles riddle them. The ones I tried 5 years ago got a disease. Such is life. Gotta love the longer days as the greenhouse is jamming! 👊👍🌱

I have watched pruning videos for my grapes. I learned from them I think. But this video, demonstration made it perfectly clear what I need to do. I am pruning mine in the morning, exactly the way I just saw here. Last year I kept my two main arms, one on each plant at about 18 feet long. I pruned it to the bone, got fresh wood and few grapes. But now that fresh wood is going to be pruned properly and now I know im going to get the absolute best yield, because I'm positive what to do now. Thanks for your videos, I think this might be the third one this week to help me out. But this one is fantastic.

I'm not a fan of muscadines, and did not know of these hybrids. Thanks Pete and Paul.

18 thumbs down didn't like the use of the word "wimpy."
Youtube algorithm helped once again. I needed ideas on pruning squash and there's a lot in common with grape, I realize. Except squash needs to be pruned continuously as old foliage dies off or squash is harvested throughout the year. Thanks for the bottom line information.
