Hyacinth Macaw Challenges: They're so strong!

While I'm forever grateful that I was able to adopt my Hyacinth Macaw Boo....he's been a challenge to contain! While he does love to spend his days on tree stands, at some point we have work to do and he'll need to go into his cage. On that note, we've not found one that can contain him yet! I think we've found as solution, which hopefully we can swing in the future. I hear Freedom Cages are the best choice for these super strong Hyacinth beaks!

Imagine waddling up to someone else’s house and start breaking windows for the fun of it.

‘Sentient flying bolt cutters’ seems perhaps an apt description of hyacinth macaws, from my understanding.

I love how a normal sized macaw getting preened by a hyacinth looks SO small 😂❤

I watch this when I need a laugh. I would enjoy a video of Boo actually breaking out. Thank you for sharing!

Hi, me and my sisters love birds, and we got a cockatiel 2 months ago. We also have 2 budgies. We love watching your channel and your birds! They are all really beautiful!

My blue and gold used to stand at the bottom of his cage in one specific spot and rattle the grate. Over the course of about a decade in the cage, he torqued one of the stainless steel bars off. And that's from one of the "weaker" macaws. (He hasnt been at it again since it was welded back together.)

I have hears of the destrutive powers of the great blue birds. Many feel your pain. So much so that they have left the birds out of their cages and have gave the birds their own room. Hope whatever solution you find will work for you!

Those cages work great, we have one for our Eclectus. It's nice to see a cage that was well designed for everything a bird might need, cause now a days so many cages just don't have the abilities of birds in mind

The problem is the off-the-shelf cage rod panels are not welded. The pieces are fit together, but loose.

I would recommend looking into smaller avian cage manufacturers. Not only will you find a better price, but you can usually customize your cages to fit your birds and your space better. Alternatively, local welders, or even a rural school with a welding program, would also be good options to look into.

As someone like yourself who keeps a lot of a specific type of animal, it's something I wish I had known about when I started. Would have saved me a lot of money in the long run!

When I was a kid I traveled to Mexico and got two grand iron cages for my parents yellow headed parrots.. thinking back on it..I feel so badly for those beautiful birds..mom and dad never handled them..I don't know what happened to them.

I know some birds just chew for fun. I wonder if there's a natural instinct to chew the hardest materiel they can find, just to keep the muscle strength in their breaks up. (Birdie workout💪) I always try to think like a bird in the wild, and try to determine what the purpose of the behavior would be in the wild. I wonder if you provided some broken cage pieces on his play area, or inside his cage, if he would chew that instead of the Unbroken cages?😂 I doubt it. My husband made our African Grey an area she could just chew the crap out of, and she still chose our cabinets, door jabs, trim and solid woods doors over her amazing "chew area". Nope. She wanted nothing to do with it except crawl on it. 😂 Good luck!
