Monte Conner is God. Discovered Fear Factory, Machine Head, Sepultura, Death etc.... Almost every succesfull metal-band that have ruled for the last 20-30 years have to thank this guy. He shaped my musical life. And still does.

They were in the beginning a death metal band but the elements they used on Soul Of A New Machine had industrial elements with mainly death metal growls, it was Demanufacture which introduced the industrial metal style we know from the band today, they've influenced a lot of bands and there is even an Australian band called Synthetic Breed who are one of those bands with the industrial style we know but also some death metal elements giving their style industrial death metal

It's really cool how they've almost come full circle like that. Now we just need Christian and Raymond back in the band, and it will be complete!

The brutal/melodic vocals were they're invention, very true. If every time a band uses that they got a cent...

But then there's even a second thing they established: it was the guitars, bass and drums plying those synched-in triplets.
Dino was very honest and said he was influenced to do that by that "landmine"-part in Metallica's One.
Still they were the ones that made it a staple in metal.

FF really do not get the credit they deserve for influencing a zillion bands out there.

They were so far ahead of their time that they never really got their due. Like Prong and Helmet, lots of people that imitated them went huge and the sound and structure the guys put out there became the norm, but at the time they didn't have that jangly. prescription anti depressant background music feel so they never really got any play except for Headbanger's Ball and occasional late night metal radio shows.

*Soul Of A New Machine is true Melodic Death Metal, not that dead Gothenburger Inflames death n roll bollocks!. So tragic that Fear Factory ended up* *sounding like depressingly boring and extremely dull bands like Meshuggah though. Still, Soul.. Demanufacture, Obsolete.. 3 classic albums is enough for me.*

No one gave a penny for them in early 90's 'cuz they sound like any other death metal band, so they implement the cleans...
