Rookie Pro Stock driver Strong hits the sand in Sonoma #NHRA

On just his second run of his Pro Stock career rookie Aaron Strong's parachutes did not deploy causing him to hit the sand at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

There is no camera-angle that could possibly make these incredibly fast cars look any slower

This is why a lot of guys still use manual chute releases. A cable doesn't fail nearly as often as these co2 chutes do. Every driver I know packs their own chutes. Most drivers say, if the worst happens they don't want that on someone else's conscience.

Buddy of mine had this happen to his prostock car he failed to turn on his C02 bottle . Long story short he hit the net and never got in the car again.

Man i love my local track, sonoma stay lit. And man even with no chute im surprised he didnt stop, sonoma is famous for having an uphill section at the end of the drag strip

They seemed like they both gave up cause it looks sooo slow, but once he hit that sand you know they both were hauling ass!
