…Understanding Learning Pathways

When you leave compulsory education at the end of year 11, you are in control of what you do next.

There is an expectancy for you to stay in education or training until the age of 18.

However, you can decide what that looks like and what you decide to study.

This could be a vocational qualification that links directly to a career at a local college or training provider.

You could decide to go and do A Levels, the traditional academic qualification that often leads to university.

Alternatively, you could exploreT Levels; vocational qualifications that allow you to spend 20% of your time on a work placement, getting real life experience of work!

The other option available to you when you come to the end of Year 11 is to take on an apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship is a paid job with 20% of your time spent at college or completing training to gain recognised qualifications.

In recent years, the government has paid considerable attention to ensuring that all of these options can lead you in a range of directions.

Did you know, all of these pathways could allow you to consider university in the future?

It is important that you take the time to research the range of pathways available.

Some options may make your journey to achieving your future goals faster.

Some options would mean that you sit more or less exams or complete more or less coursework.

Other options may give you a unique experience of work and a range of workplaces.

Without understanding all of the pathways available to you, it would be hard to choose the best pathway for you!
