Know Your World With Nishi – Shymkent, Kazakhstan

When one speaks of Kazakhstan, the most important city (and sometimes the only city) that comes to mind is Almaty. What many miss to explore is Shymkent, the largest city by area in all of Central Asia but more importantly, is the closest to the Silk Route that passes through Kazakhstan. The citadel of Shymkent was built to offer security to the trading hub of Sayram, an ancient city on the Silk Route close to Shymkent. But what blew me over were the nature's blessings around the city - the Aksu Canyon, Sayram Ugam National Park, the foothills of Kaskasu, the Boralday Gorge and much more. What more, its just a 2hr drive away from the historical city of Otrar and Turkistan. Shymkent is for those looking for some truly reclusive experience
