Restored footage from c. 1926 of members of the Tulsa Business League leaving to attend lunch with Solomon Sir Jones, the person that recorded this footage.

Tulsa was home to the Greenwood district, also known as “Black Wall Street,” which was one of the most affluent majority black communities in the United States. In 1921, the Tulsa race massacre occurred in which the homes, businesses, and lives of black residents of Tulsa were attacked, leaving between 100-300 people killed, and over 8,000 residents left homeless. Many black residents were denied insurance claims on the damaged property so either left the city or had to rebuild their homes and businesses in the following years without insurance money.

I’m from Tulsa born and raised. Still have family there. The riot happened in 1921, this was filmed in ‘26 so this was after the fact? Which means these men and women business owners had to overcome tremendous obstacles. ❤❤❤❤

I can't help but think how disappointed they would be with today's society.

They were sharp as hell. I would love to have a 10 minute conversation with them to see how different times were back then.

Noticed that every single men wears a hat, my Grandpa who was born in 1908 as he gotten a little older I think in his 20s he too had a hat as well and he kept some of his hats and still wore it until the day he past away in 1997.
