Ranking Xtrullor - The Second Era

For those of you who've known me long enough, you probably know (or at least had the idea) that I am not the biggest Au5 fan, more specifically his style of Dubstep. The best way I can describe this collection of music is if you took the worst aspects of both Au5's old music and his new music, and combined them into a single project. Yes, I understand that most of the music on here is roughly 4-6 years old, yes I understand that this music is on Geometry Dash. I never liked Geometry Dash as a kid, never played it that much. Listening through this album reminded me why I did not like that game, and most of it was just the sound of it all. I just couldn't stand it, and I didn't even realize this was Geometry Dash music until AFTER I sat through the whole damn thing. I would normally get older music a pass if it had an older sound to it, but keep in mind the oldest track on this project is from 2015 and the youngest one was 2018...and I wasn't a fan that most of the album sounded like 2012 Au5. As much as I hate to say it, this was probably one of the most unpleasant listening experiences I've had in quite some time.

3cstasy7410's Question: Which artist or artists have inspired your music style the most?

Answer: There are a lot of artists that inspired me throughout the years, and I would say the most prominent ones were 7 Minutes Dead, Tristam, Grabbitz, WRLD. and more recently CloudNone. There are also some off-label artists that I listened to when I was a lot younger that really helped shaped my music preferences like Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Avril Lavigne being the main ones. In truth, I get a lot of inspiration from lots of people, I suppose it just depends what what feels right in my mind.

I forgot you didn't like this kind of music. If I had remembered, I would have submitted something else (and I probably will) but thank you for ranking it regardless.

I respect your opinion but Xtrullor is a master for me 🥺

Xtrullor my goat ‍🔥

It's interesting to see your takes on these tracks, as someone who's been an Xtrullor fan for a long time (from Geometry Dash). A lot of the things that you listed as negatives I view more as positives, especially the 7/8 time signatures and the mixing. I have a bit of an obsession with songs that have a multiple of 7 time signature so to hear that in the dubstep space is really cool for me and not as jarring. Honest to god Xtrullor's mixing is some of my favorite I've ever heard. He has a very unique mixing style though so I get that it's not for everyone. I just think it's always stood out to me as really good and even before I started producing and understood what mixing was, I really liked the quality of his sound. Mixing isn't something I really noticed from any other artists before Xtrullor.

I don't have a ranking for everything on this album but my top 6 would probably be Event Horizon, Nirmiti, Paradigm Shift, Birth of the Sun, The Armor of God, and Ichor. I made GD level using the full track of Event Horizon back in 2021 because I was so obsessed with it and it's been my favorite since then. I'll be sure to check out some more of your rankings, I noticed in the description you mentioned WRLD as one of your biggest inspirations. I'm not familiar with most of their discography but "Little Too Close" is one of my absolute favorite songs. I don't listen to much stuff with lyrics but that song stands out to me as really good and I love the synths and the lyricism in it.

This is an interesting take on the 2nd Era experience. I will get this out of the way. I am a Geometry Dash player who played for three years, nearly four now. Xtrullor was the talk of the town when it came to the game, so to see someone who didn't come from the same community and had a completely different experience with this album was interesting.

This is not to say that your opinions are trash because every opinion is valuable in its own right. This was to say that I find it crazy how diverse EDM music tastes are.

I still love Xtrullor to this day; They're solely responsible for me getting into Dubstep and them EDM as a whole. Oh to be in the 2015 Era of GD again lol

I respect your opinion greatly. I get that some styles are not for them. But in my opinion the second era is nothing shorter than a cinematic masterpiece.

Now that I think about it it’s probably because I play too much geometry dash. “The First Era” might be a better thing if you don’t like these weird au5 style basses. It’s also more diverse than the Second era.

I understand the criticism of dubstep and things akin to it, especially Xtrullor. His style is extremely different and somewhat boring on purpose because they're more trying to give an experience than a song to listen to. For example, "Screamroom" or "Supernova" are both great examples of his first generation that I really like. Plus his second gen music is pretty mid imo

I knew you were going to rank this LP when I saw the second teaser. I was hyped when my prediction was correct because the second era is pretty good overall. However, I do have to agree with you about the boringness of the music. Can't wait for Teminite, dirtyphonics, and MARAUDA. Keep up the great work man u are doing great.

The first time I ever heard of Xtrullor was from the Roblox Flood Escape 2 map, Destination Point, and the song it used was Nirmiti. It sounded great to me, and I found some of Xtrullor's stuff to be awesome, great, and good. Some weren't all that interesting to listen to, but it was still pretty fun nonetheless.

Edit: I just remembered TRIA was a thing a few seconds after I submitted this comment. Authority was used in that map, it was the first song I ever heard from Xtrullor and it was alright. Nothing all that interesting. Still, some people who make Flood Escape maps use Xtrullor's music, but mostly Waterflame and Creo's music, they're a bit more popular in that community.

8. Oh yeah now I like this. Reminds me of an Au5 and Dex Arson collab

I've always respected Xtrullor's artisty, but i think some of his songs lack "energy" if you know what i mean.

That's said, he has made some of my favourite music ever, like Paradigm Shift, Ego Death and TAOG. Earthsplitter on the other hand, i find awful. I mostly think his music as "cinematic", and he is definitely good at orchestral stuff

(also, Catharsis is super underrated)

I really liked this album for the orchestral parts but the dubstep is mediocre so I can see why this would be so boring if you didn’t like the orchestral parts
