With barely 5 minutes of screentime, Barbados becomes one of my favorite animated characters of all time.

This movie went from a Bug's Life to Starship god-damn Troopers.

Literally, barely 10 minutes of screen time overall and Barbatus was one of my favourite characters in this movie.
He didn’t know Z, yet he watched out for him, protected him, and even gave him advice that further fuelled Z’s ideology of thinking for yourself instead of what others tell you to think.

I remember being terrified of this scene as a kid and when dad said we had a termite problem in our shed i expected these guys and cried

I like how they literally march straight to the battle immediately after the speech.

It’s amazing how mature ANTZ was before DreamWorks started to become more like Disney in tone. I missed when PG was more hardcore.

I feel bad for both colonies. The ants thought the termites wanted their land. The termites thought the ants wanted their land. Little did both colonies know, that it was all just a setup.

If any movie could visually describe "war is hell", Antz is one of them. The ants thought they were protecting their colony, but it was all a suicide mission for Mandible's benefit. Likewise, the termites thought they'd get a good snack, but they ended up being massacred as well. Nobody wins.

I love how the filmmakers were just like: Hey, let's introduce kids to the horrors of war.
(Edit: Not saying that's a bad thing.)

In all honesty this scene shows the grittiness & horror of war really well & how much it can destroy the people that fight in it not just physically but mentally as well. At the end of the battle with Z being the last one alive he has to live with that & he knows how bad each of those soldiers suffered before they died.

3:57 I like the attention to detail. If you look closely you can literally see their exoskeletons bubbling and melting to the acid.

Hopper and his crew could have never hoped to bully this colony, they got a full military 😂

1:26 I love it how they did "When Johnny comes marching home" in such a very creative way.

This battle sequence is basically high octane nightmare fuel. It's bad enough that they have one large termite spitting acid that they had to deal with. But an army of them coming down the hill towards you, would be the most terrifying sight you could ever think about.

It's like you're dealing with an army of fast moving tanks, terrifying war elephants, or even 100 Godzillas that are bearing down on you. What else can you describe as a 'You're freaking screwed' moment, than this?

Even though Barbados wasn't in the Film that much, he seems like a very cool dude you wanna hang out with as a Friend or Relative.

This is the most fascinating part for me as a kid. I dunno why but watching this kinda gave me some sort of adrenaline. The marching, chanting, and fight was so cool.

I like how theyve made the soldiers look more masculine, bigger, stronger better looking and more aggressive compared to the workers.

It's a pity we won't be seeing anything like this in most animated films nowadays

Crazy to think that all of this took place over a couple of metres
