Lived in Cottage Gardens, went to Gorton HS, hung out in Getty Square in Winter and Tibbets Brook Park in Summer.
I loved those days, my first band, my first kiss and the first few dollars I ever made.
The good old days weren't always good, but they were better times than these.
Thank you Chip!

Having been born and raised Yonkers for the first 30 years of my life - it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who gets nostalgic when I think about my home town.

I too was born and raised in Yonkers, NY, played basketball against Roosevelt High, and hung out in Getty Square, 3 blocks from my house on Waverly St and Park Hill Ave. Thanks for the memories.

@DjGizzo
I was born an raised in Yonkers.

Jon Voight is Chip's brother. Angelina is Chip's niece.
I recorded in NorthLake studios in White Plains, NY - Chip Taylor owned it.
Read more about it in the book KISS & Tell (there is an Ace Frehley/KISS connection to Chip Taylor too)

Cool video! Thanks to those who directed me here. Although I now live in MA, I carry good memories of my "formative years" growing up in Yonkers, attending PS-31; PS-8; Whitman JHS & Roosevelt class of '68. I remember LL baseball @ Henry S. Richards; spending hours at the Sprain Brook Library (sometimes even studying...); my Herald Statesman's paper route; Boe Sun's; Andy-delica-dandy; Carlo's for pizza & Patricia Murphy's for those special family occasions. Yes, those were the days. Thanx, Chip

Born (4/12/43) and raised (near Getty Square) in Yonkers, NY, - had the largest Herald Statesman paper-boy route. Left after graduating YHS, in '61, now in Berkeley, and my Yonkers is done.

How could a song about Yonkers have a country twang to it? Nevertheless, I love it!

An' all the gangsters on Lockwood Avenue... took yo' money and forgot about you... now you're livin' in the projects they built... On Park Avenue at the bottom of the hill... By old School St. where Ella FitzGerald once sang... for nickels and dimes for the boys in the gang...

I own this album! Raised in Yonkers, but really don't like it so much. Wanna move. But this song is awesome. Thanks, Chip!

Chip I lived in the Martin Ray "projects" when my Dad returned from the military. 1946-1953 did you live there then?

Hi, all I can figure is, it's a play on words about New Jersey being across the state line ...
Picture a pirate on the river -- "Avast there yon Jerseyites !!"
