That's pretty amazing that removing the side mirrors can increase highway fuel economy by 5%. Americans burned 135 billion gallons of gas last year, so assuming some of that was burned in city driving and some was burned for other things besides driving, let's say that removing side mirrors would increase reduce the amount of gas consumed by 2.5%. So if every car had cameras instead of side mirrors, we would have burned 3.4 billion fewer gallons of gas. Assuming an average of $3.50 a gallon, that means we spent 11.9 billion dollars last year because cars have side mirrors. That's nuts. Talk about stupid regulations.

I am a big fan of electric cars, Tesla/Elon Musk especially. But, my skeptical side of me is saying:..hmm..these gull-wing doors...will probably make it an unsuccessful model, not the price itself.Possible head/body injuries, the door could/will malfunction and drop on the kid's head, arm, leg, ..There must reasons why this type of doors hasn't been applied to cars, minivans for mums with kids especially.Tesla cars are innovative enough, expensive enough, they should have stuck w sliding doors.
