The McDonald's Business Model - How They Make BILLIONS

What makes McDonald's so powerful? As a venture investor and mentor to ambitious founders eager to scale their businesses, I thrive on insights from those who’ve mastered the art of growth. So, let’s dive into the world of McDonald's! Remember when Jamie Oliver stirred up controversy by criticizing their food? What he really hinted at was "processed." After all, you wouldn’t take your partner to McDonald's for a romantic anniversary dinner! McDonald's definitely isn’t the culinary peak of the universe. Did you know their Coke is transported using a unique method and a strictly controlled chilling process? The syrup-to-ice ratio is meticulously calculated, leading some to claim McDonald’s Coke is fresher. Yet, purists argue it’s not “real” Coke. Whichever side you lean towards, one thing’s for sure: McDonald's runs an incredible business that inspires others. What’s their secret ingredient? 1. Consistent product outcomes. Every fry, every burger, every McFizz tastes identical, every single time. Founders often struggle to achieve this level of process excellence for uniformity! 2. A lean and predictable menu: my favorite McDonald’s strategy! Their menus stay streamlined and familiar, with minor tweaks for events or locations. But for the most part, it’s all about the classics. 3. They’re obsessed with their customers! In developed nations, they’ve launched “Green McDonalds” to keep up with the health trend and compete with Shake Shack, showing that even giants can listen and adapt. Keep an eye on the comments; someone’s bound to say, “Google McDonald's” and flood the section with “corrections” because they only watch the video instead of reading the caption. In this age of AI and search, everyone thinks they’re an expert behind a keyboard! By the way, I discovered the McFeast Deluxe 13 years ago at the McDonald's near Lakeside Mall in Benoni, and it remains my ultimate go-to meal! It isn't just efficiency, it is consistency.
It ain't great, but it ain't terrible. And it will always have the same taste.

Actually, . they're in the real estate market and often choose locations purely based on the "locations" usefulness. They'll open stores to cut markets, open stores to even cut into their own stores markets, keep stores open that aren't even profitable, . all because the location itself serves a specific purpose.

Robert Kiyosaki wrote in one of his books that McDonald's isn't in the restaurant business, they're really in the real estate business. A franchisee owns the building and all the fixtures, but McDonald's owns the real estate it's sitting on.

No wonder he's talking in front of a curtain.

"McDonalds doesn't sell food..."
"They sell food that is fast"

If you've seen the founder you know it's a real estate company.

A friend worked as a fitness trainer at their HQ, and claimed the executive staff said they NEVER ate company food.

I visited a McDonalds in Turkey about 30 years ago and the food was actually quite good. The burgers were made from hand formed patties and the milk shake was from actual ice cream or possibly locally made gelato. The fries were exceptional as well and I must add the place was packed.

Mr. Thembe,
Your fusion accent is beauty, on one's ears.
The elocution, and pronunciation properly expound your words...Thus, I not only hear you, I listen, and learn.
Thank you.

I don't know about America, but in the UK and Belgium, McDonald patties are 100% beef. Usually, British or Irish beef. I assume American patties are, too.

I've got one for you... I don't go to McDonald's at all. We eat very little fast food, usually while traveling, and we will seek out a Panera. burger fi or even whole foods prepared food. I'm just not putting that in my body. You know you are what you eat and if you eat junk...

I learnt value over price, now it's efficiency. Thank you.

In the Philippines you often wait 30 to 50 min for your order. Often they tell you that before you pay. There IA almost always another huge fast food across the street that serves FAST.

McDonalds does not sell "fake" Coke. They sell the same Coke as everyone else and the ratio of syrup to carbonated water is set by Coke itself even at McDonalds. The reason that Coke at McDonalds tastes different and better is because other places use Coke syrup in a BiB (Bag In a Box) but McDonalds gets their Coke syrup delivered in stainless steel tanks. McDonalds also pre-chills their syrup and carbonated water before it even gets to the soda fountain and they use insulated lines to make sure they stay chilled from the tank to the fountain.

They are selling you your time back, which is very valuable. You pay them a fee then they will return you a net-savings on time relative to what it would have taken you to obtain that same level of satiation (no longer feeling hungry).

They're the most inefficient restaurant I've ever been to. It takes 10-20 minutes to go through the drive through and even longer inside ❤
