LP Home 4: How to Install LP Smartside Siding Tips and Tricks

During this video, I take you thru many of the different LP Smartside siding installation tips and tricks I have learned over the years. I was contracted by LP Smartside to install this expert finish for the purpose of creating installation content for their own use, which allowed me the perfect opportunity to share it with you as well.

I am installing their new Smartside Expert Finish in this video, which is similar to what I installed on my own house in a previous series. As both a homeowner and contractor, the best part of using LP Expert Finish, is the finished look as soon as it is installed!

LP Smartside did sponsor this video which covered my time and trip to Texas. Very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a company that makes such a great product. If you would like to learn more about LP Smartside Expert Finish, check out the link below.

Small paint the heads of the nails while there a coil. Then you're shooting painted nails and touch up is twice as better

Sr. With all due respect has anyone told you that you look like Canelo Alvarez the boxer. I don’t mean any disrespect on my comment but I can see the resemblance.
Thanks for your time in creating this Channel.
I be learning a lot from you.
Thanks again

I am always very impressed with your attention to detail and craftsmanship.
But I have to say the 3/16'' gaps are terrible. I know
that is LP's specs but I would not put it on anything that I build.
I have done a tour at their plant in North Carolina and was not sold
on using it.
I think their siding looks way better than Hardie for sure, but that's it.

They should of had a better quality of flashing for you to use.
That thin gauge galvanize is at the bottom of the flashing category. IMO
Stainless, aluminum, painted metal or copper is the only way to go.

We always shorten the reveal on the first piece of lap siding by 3/8'' this makes up
for the lack of the shadow line on the first piece.
You really notice it on 6'' or greater reveals.
FINISH NAILS on the trim
Build us some more post frames you do an awesome job on them.

Awesome video! Wife and I have been debating between replacing our vinyl siding with another brand of vinyl (due to age and house remodel) or the LP Smartside. After watching your video....this is selling me on the Smartside. I'm doing this myself and you just explained everything I need to know. Thank you so much!!!

What’s the paint container with built in brush you use when you paint the edges?

Use a pan flash color that matches the siding next time. Stick with 1/8 gaps.

Do you not like the seam covers? Also, do you caulk around windows and doors? I just can’t let all that weather get behind the siding. It seems counter intuitive to me.

Product looks nice, but I don't care for the 3/16 gaps needed for expansion. I would think that would be a non-stop maintenance issue having to re caulk all those joints.

The most efficient way to install lp lap siding is to make a story pole and mark every corner of the building then snap lines before the windows and doors are set.
