Hello folks!

Today I made a super easy toad in the hole :) which is essentially just a giant Yorkshire pudding filled with sausages. Perfect with a rich onion gravy or do as we did…with baked beans! I’m often asked the secret to beautifully risen Yorkshire pudding…I believe that letting the batter rest for a few hours (the longer the better, overnight would be great!) And also the temperature of your oil makes a huge difference! Make sure your oil is spitting hot before you add the matter.

What I used -

6-8 Pork sausage links
3-4 Tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

160g (5.6 oz) Plain/all purpose flour
4 Large eggs
220ml (7.4 fl oz) Semi skimmed milk
1/2 teaspoon each salt & white pepper (optional)

My mother was born in Nottingham. I loved her Yorkshire "Yuksha" Pudding. Your plate and bowl are beautiful.

I found the recipe for Toad in the Hole in an "Antique Recipes" cookbook here in the States in the early 70's. The recipe was VERY vague and didn't have any pictures or any explanation. I did figure it out and it was years before I actually saw another recipe for it. We like to use breakfast sausages and have it as a bit of a brunch on the weekends. I was always at a loss for what to serve with it. Thanks for this. I can update my recipe now. It's very, very similar except mine didn't really didn't have concise directions. Part of it stated to beat it very well until air is incorporated. But no refrigerating or waiting or anything.

I had toad in the hole for dinner a few days ago. Always serve it with roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. 😋

Mashed potatoes and onion gravy with mine please 😊. I often add some dried sage or thyme in the batter. Hope you have a good week, Cheryl

I made this for tea tonight, served with Cumberland sausage & onion gravy. Absolutely delicious! My Yorkshires always come out like omelettes, but tonight my family was very impressed. Thanks for helping to restore my credibility in the kitchen!

Mmm!!😋 Toad in the hole!! I haven’t made that in donkey’s ears! I know my American husband has never had it, so I think I shall make it soon! 😃

Now to just find some pork and apple sausages here in this tiny Southern US town! 🤔😊
