Ford’s inaugural address was the best one of my lifetime. I remember hearing it when he delivered it, but I was only 10 at the time. I listened to it as an adult, knowing more about Watergate, and I wondered if he would have the courage to address four or five key issues . He addressed them all directly.

Gerald Ford was a good man who did a good job under very difficult circumstances in that he had to take over for President Nixon who was forced out because of Watergate and kept our country together during the time he was President.Granted the pardon of Richard Nixon no doubt cost him the Presidency in 1976 against Jimmy Carter but long term the pardon was best for our country.

A truly good and decent man who did what he thought was best for the country at great personal expense. It is undeniable that giving Nixon the mulligan cost Ford the presidency in '76. It also created a a basis for the notion among many on the right that accountability is something to be demanded of the other side but not of themselves. We will never know how bad this decision actually was.
