Guys I just wanted to put my 2 pence in towards these radios..
I have 2 sets of these radios..
Standard there shit ..
Upon putting a 54cm antenna you can hear better then the standard one ..
Plug in the mobile adapter connect it all up, ,plug in the antenna magmount make sure it's long on car ..
Now with plug in 13.8v plus antenna you'll start hearing people...
The last thing is an RL 203 p
Pre amplifier 100w ...
Plug it all in an i have been heard & hear traffic from miles .. 20 to 40 miles away with absolutely no problems..
Amplifier cost £50
Radio cost £120
Thunder pole long mobile antenna cost £28
Mic +built in speakerphone cost £30
It's now an excellent setup that works ..
Before the amplification no one could hear me, , now 7 miles round circle 30+ had a radio check an its blowing ..

An automatic noise limiter would help clear up your receive, I believe a lot of the noise coming through when you're receiving in this video is coming from the power lines along the road.
