What Happened to RICHARD DREYFUSS?

His lifelong partnership with Steven Spielberg started, of course, with 1975’s Jaws. Though calling it a partnership doesn’t quite capture it. There’s no Richard Dreyfuss without Steven Spielberg, and there’s no Steven Spielberg without Richard Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss has been called Spielberg’s muse and is definitely the guy Spielberg has used when he wants to put himself into his movies. Dreyfuss and Spielberg were both crowned Hollywood's golden boys before they really hit it big.

“What About Bob” from 1991 was fun and Bill Murray was hilarious alongside him. Some moments were genuinely really funny like the dinner scene. Most underrated movie of his career

Jaws, Close Encounters, Stakeout, Mr. Holland’s Opus, The American President. He’s had a pretty good career

Mr. Holland’s Opus is so under appreciated and heartwarming. It has, to me, his best performance

Krippendorf's Tribe is one of the greatest movies of the 90s

Richard and his wife Svetlana are friends of mine. He is a class act. Very focused on the lack of civics in America. Hugely philanthropic and committed to helping others. I am lucky to be his friend. - Chris

He is one of those great 70s actors that made an impact in that decade and maybe something more later in the 80s and 90s but he disappeared from the screen in the 2000s and 2010s, only cameos

I love Richard Dreyfuss! My favorite film of his is 1987's Stakeout. It's the perfect movie. Also 1978's The Big Fix. 1991's Once Around. And, of course, his performance in 1989's Let it Ride is the stuff of legends. God, I wish he made more films. I miss him.

Let It Ride was great and no one ever remembers it.

Seriously... what happened? FYI, Richard created a class for our film school called "Actor's Survival" and instilled in us a rebellion against the abuse of the Hollywood system. Also, "Moon Over Parador" was a project that was developed by my boss Gary Shusett while he was still running the school. Like Dustin Hoffman, Richard was very open to us and gave the students a lot of insight. I remember him telling us he was so sure Richard Burton would win the Oscar in 1977 for "Equus" he was completely blown away when he got it for "The Goodbye Girl" and had no idea what to say for his acceptance speech. What an inspiration.

I love him as the narrator in Stand By Me

You should hear his unhinged sons rants about people who weren't raised in a mansion.

People today don't get how beloved American Graffiti was. It was even nominated for Best Picture!

A few years ago, like 2018-19, I was working in Barnes and Noble in the DVD section, and this older gent came in to ask about a number of movies. He agreed to have the DVDs ordered in, and it wasn't until I took his info that I learned that he was Richard Dreyfuss. Literally, the dude spent HOURS in the store, including about 30 min that he came to talk to me about anything and everything while I was in the newsstand (I was trapped up to my elbows holding magazines, so this was NOT welcome). So that happened.

No denying he's a master of his craft. He's left quite a legacy of memorable characters but a total bastard and what an ego. And I've felt that way long before his "dress meltdown" at the Jaws screening.

Close Encounters was one of our family’s all time favorite

"What About My Back?" would be a fitting title for him in that Bill Maher show. My brother does the exact same thing, slouching right down on the chair, because he has a bad back. Damned funny, though.

He's still underwater hiding from a great white shark

He also recently did the call outs for the newer Stern “Jaws” pinball machine which is a great game.
