This kid wasn’t reading comic books at night - he’s reading the Puritans! Incredible!

I definitely recommend listening to Joel Beeke’s sermons on the podcast app. Such great sermons, with deep truths, you’ll be so encouraged every time you listen.

What an inspiring testimony to have started reading the Puritans from age 9.

Dr. Beeke's posture as he rises and leans forward as he teaches about the Puritans, speaks for itself. I'm humbled by this clip. SoliDeoGloria

I appreciate the brief podcast on Puritanism however I must make a slight correction. The Act of Uniformity indeed did occur in 1662 but Queen Elizabeth was not the queen. She died in 1603 and during her long reign she was tolerant of the Puritans. King Charles II was the king in 1662. The Act of Uniformity was particularly repugnant to the Presbyterians in Scottland at the time. Now I have great regard for the Puritans. What I find most commendable about them was that they advocated that all fathers acquire a Bible of their own and that they read it to their families daily. The Puritans were among the most Biblically literate people in all of history. This contrasted with the typical Anglican who did not own a Bible nor saw any reason to.

Now reading William Gurnall, all three volumes, and it’s riveting and eloquently direct about dealing with and understanding
Satans effect on our lives. Highly recommend it. I warn you though… It’s Hard to put down.

The Puritans came to New England long before the Great Ejection of 1662. The Pilgrims came in 1620 of course, but the bulk of the Puritans came between 1630 and 1640 (an estimated 20, 000). There's an excellent article at Banner of Truth called "Iain Murray on American Puritans".

What I don't understand is. If the Puritans were trying that hard to seek after the Lord, and living that kind of life. How come they don't exist anymore? How come all the promises of God didn't apply to them? I can quote many many verses for the blessings that come upon men who fear and follow the commands of the Lord. Why are we speaking of the Puritans in past tense?

My many great grandfather John Pickering came to Ipswich Massachusetts in 1634. The Pickerings became discouraged when the Puritans lynched several Quakers.

I know the godly influence of Jonathan Edwards' descendants. I would like to know about the descendants of earlier Puritans.

You start reading the Puritans and you get obsessed.

We are ALL sinners that fall short of the glory of God. And we ALL are deserving of eternal punishment in hell because sin is so serious (sin is evil and it is the cause of all pain, death, and suffering). And that’s why Jesus suffered soooo much for us, and that’s why He died on the cross for ALL our sins (past, present, AND future sins) and rose from the dead 3 days later! Jesus did all this because He loves us much, you can’t even fully comprehend it! And you may have eternal life with Him if you repent (to change your mind about Jesus, to believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord our God) and have faith in Him, then you will be saved! (Let’s make it clear that being a good person WILL NOT get you into Heaven! You can only be saved by the grace God will show you, if you repent and have faith in Jesus and in what Jesus did for us on the cross and that He rose from the dead 3 days after He died for us! ONLY THEN, will you will be saved)! And do not wait because you do not know when you will die (sit and think deeply about that. You have NO CLUE when you will die! Today could be your last day, tonight could be your last night. You can die in your sleep or even in the next hour!) I want you to realize how urgent and important it is to have Jesus! But if you have Jesus, you will NEVER have to worry! You won’t have to worry about school, family problems, life, or EVEN DEATH because you will have the LORD your GOD, RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE, EVERY SINGLE DAY, EVERY SINGLE HOUR, EVER SINGLE MINUTE and EVERY SINGLE SECOND of your life! GOD can help you through ANY challenge, through ANY hardship, and through ANY depressing time in your life! GOD WILL NEVER leave you, GOD WILL NEVER forget about you, GOD WILL NEVER betray you, GOD WILL NEVER forsake you, and GOD WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!! And that is why GOD is calling you RIGHT NOW to be saved!

"... ejected from their pulpits in 1662 because Queen Elizabeth wanted them to conform to the entire Book of Common Prayer..." (2:04)

Since Elizabeth I had been dead 59 years at the time, that is an unfortunate blunder.
