Democratic Peace Theory - A short Introduction

Democratic peace theory predicts that democracies are hesitant to engage in armed conflict with other identified democracies. In contrast to theories explaining war engagement, it's a "Theory Of Peace" outlining motives that discourage state-sponsored violence.

3 theories of democratic peace -
First: Monadic Theory: - argues that democracies are more peaceful and less likely to go to war with other states
Second: Dyadic Theory (most commonly accepted): - argues that democracies are more peaceful with one another but likely to fight with non-liberal/democratic states
Third: systematic theory – argues that international system become more peaceful with increase of democratic states

Nomadic argument of democratic peace: - theorizes that democracies trust each other because they share social and cultural norms
Institutional Logic: - Leaders of a democracy are believed to respond to the general public, and will only go to war when they can win.
Inter-dependence Hypothesizes: - that democratic states tend to adopt free market economies, leading to more international trade. This trade will make nations more interdependent on each other. Which will make it less likely for them to declare war because war will make everyone worse off.

Kant explicitly criticises democracies, he was talking about republics. To him democracy is necessarily a despotism (first definitive article of a perpetual peace).
Read the text otherwise you will be reproducing a complete bastartisation of politics, which for kant would happen in a democracy but never in a republic, btw.
