Actions against Huawei by certain countries are all trade related disguised as security issues. China should retaliate in kind. Apply punitive tariffs on the goods from those countries

It is nothing to do with security issue of HUAWEI, It is all about the US hegemonism.

I am pursuing my PhD in the US. There are two German guys in our department. One of them bought a DJI drone to take nice photos. The other German guy called him stupid, because the other guy thinks every DJI drone is a spy device, and every picture taken by the DJI drone will be sent to the Chinese government! What the hack!

I do not see a problem if Germany wants to not use Chinese technology regardless what the politics are behind their decision. Life is not fair and the Chinese know that very well. China as a country has struggled to get to where they are now. The Chinese will continue to do well and develop and advance their technology.

Huawei is a force for development of technology! They know it. I only can imagine the pressure the US corporations are making to stop competition.

Some years back, I read Niall Ferguson's War of the World, then it was so obvious that the Anglo-French powers treated the Germans not much better than the Russians and I am wondering if indeed today the Anglo-US still harbor that feeling? Today, the French seems to side with the Germans who seem more sympathetic to the Russian feeling; the historical links seem to linger on. It is time the Eurasian block relooks at the scenario and make this block into the most advanced economic block in the 21st Century.

Guaranteeing security of critical infrastructure is a major real problem. A rational outcome in Germany would be some kind of standard rules and procedures to ensure the their 5G infrastructure is secure. In practice, all manufacturers of 5G equipment have parts of their supply chains in China. There are procedures used in the United States to ensure the security of equipment made by Nokia and Ericsson. Huawei is prepared to work hard with governments of nations using its equipment to guarantee the security of that equipment. The Germans certainly need standard processes that ensure the security of their infrastructure to satisfy NATO. Should they work with Huawei to develop satisfactory procedures it will provide a contrast to nations that have banned Huawei without any objective reason.

Germany should ban Huawei, I fully support Germany to harden its stance to the communist regime. Australia did that not long ago.

Chinese engagement has been providing a helping hand to Africa's endeavor to accelerate industrialization, according to Arancha Gonzalez, Executive Director of the International Trade Center.

ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Amid Africa's growing quest to boost the manufacturing sector, experts from the continent and beyond have commended Chinese engagement in giving Africa a helping hand.

Speaking to Xinhua on Wednesday, Arancha Gonzalez, Executive Director of the International Trade Center (ITC), emphasized China's growing engagement and interest in Africa's existing and emerging potential areas was driving the continent's industrialization.

"China has focused a lot of attention to the industrialization of the African continent, " the ITC Executive Director told Xinhua on the sidelines of the Africa Industrialization Day commemoration event, which was marked on Wednesday at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) Commission in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

"It (China) has focused a lot in manufacturing, " Gonzalez said, as she emphasized other emerging potential areas in the industry sector that are benefiting from and attracting Chinese engagement across Africa.

"First, I think now there is interesting opportunity that is coming in two other sectors, one is agro-processing, so helping Africa transform a lot of the raw materials, agricultural commodities that this continent produces into processed products.

"The second sector, still under leverage in my view, is a big opportunity in the services economy, " Gonzalez said, adding investment in the health, education, logistics, and digital connectivity areas will also make a more competitive African economy.

"I was in the Belt and Road summit earlier this year, and I was also in the Shanghai Import Expo more recently. On both occasions, I could see the interest of African countries to connect with Chinese investors, but also the appetite of Chinese investors to move into Africa, " Gonzalez said.

The continental industrialization day was commemorated as part of the AU Commission's flagship Africa Industrialization Week (AIW-2019), which is underway from November 18 to 22. The AIW-2019 also emphasized the crucial role of industrial parks and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to drive Africa's industrialization.

According to Costantinos Bt. Costantinos, an economic advisor to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Chinese-contracted industrial parks that were built in Ethiopia and other African countries "will bring about employment opportunities and revenues to the countries."

"These industrial parks are vital elements of the infrastructure supporting the structural transformation in Ethiopia that can attract international investors, " Costantinos told Xinhua.

Costantinos, also a professor of public policy at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, noted that former IMF chief Christine Lagarde had said at the Eastern Industrial Park in Addis Ababa that she had seen the dynamism and enthusiasm of the people working there and the commitment of private investors to Ethiopia.

In Addition to Ethiopia, Chinese-built industrial parks and free trade zones have also taken root in many other African countries such as Djibouti, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, eventually attracting investors into the industrial facilities.■

The US has no problem making threats to all countries they deal with regarding using Hauwei. Do they win maybe 8 out of 10 threats? Like Poland? If so, maybe it is wise for China to make threats. We call that fighting fire with fire. I don't know, maybe passivity wins the day.
