There is a great company called "Epic Gardening" that sells metal raised beds which can be assembles in different forms. They have kits that can be put together in several bed shapes. If you decide to change the height or shape you can modify them if necessary. The metal is high-quality. Unlike wood no mater what as you know rots eventually. Hope this helps. Love watching your videos.

Hi Kaye. Sorry I can't watch live on Sunday mornings.. I enjoy catching up later in the day though. My husband sold treated lumber for most of his career. Pressure treated lumber used to contain arsenic and other dangerous chemicals, but it doesn't anymore. Our garden here in Ga is on a hill and is terraced with pressure treated wood. He wouldn't even consider anything else. He also uses rebar for support for the terraced beds. We also have created beds when we took down trees with cardboard on the bottom. We layered with straw, leaves, soil, rabbit poo. We've had pretty good success. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on your garden and yard.

@Late Bloomer Hi Kaye, new viewer from Scotland. Stumbled across your channel when you were last streaming live. YT had a link to it on the "live" tab page.
Kicking myself wasn't aware when I visited a friend in LA back in Dec 2017. Would've been lovely to visit you in the 1.0 garden!
Anyways its been a real pleasure watching some of your older videos.
Just a suggestion, someone may have already mentioned. Have you considered making your raised beds by stacking smaller diameter logs from trees on your own property? If you're not sure of the look you could make a smaller one to see if you like it :)
Wishing you all the very best

Do you have a small garden tractor at your disposal for using for those little errands that need to be done. It could be a consideration and the different implements can be bought as need be for other uses. Will you be mowing as well? On our acreage we couldn't do a thing without it and we are only on five acres here and ten in our other place. They are worth their weight in gold for so so much. Just a thought. I know you are bombarded with so much and many projects that need done and when you own property there is always something ongoing situations.
God bless and good luck on all your dreams and going to be beautiful when you get it to where you start to feel comfortable with some of the projects completed. :-) Your place is so lovely and you are going to do it just wonderfully I know!
Blessings

Two suggestions:
Find your local gardeners club. Usually a wealth of information pertaining to your area.
Secondly, most privately owned nurseries can recommend a garden designer. I think you would benefit greatly in hiring someone to sketch out and design with you a master plan before you invest money. Hope this helps

It can be frustrating! When I moved from Florida to North Carolina I had to slow way down when trying to get projects accomplished. I found the workmen and repair guys hardly knew how to show up when they said they would, and often just forgot how to call and let me know. So much wasted time and effort. Had a few who would even lie to me about reasons why it wouldn't work, just because they didn't want to do the project. I hope you make lists so you can give your brain a rest now and then. You sure have a lot on your plate all at once. Think about stacking landscaping timbers with rebar holes drilled through them. You can stack as many as you wish depending how long your rebar is. I live on a hill and my raised beds are teared. The treated wood is no longer sprayed with anything you need to worry about. You have my best wishes.

For some reason your current situation keeps reminding me of the 80's movie Baby Boom. I mean that in the best possible way!!! :D

Kaye a little simple garden section for this coming spring
lay down your old cardboard boxes flattened
some where near your 7 raised beds
lay down the cardboard on the open ground
then cover with wood chip, , , say 4 to 6 inches, ,
as big a space as you want, ,, then use some of your woodland leaf mould on the woodchip, , , , in spring you can then plant what ever you desire, , , , potatoes love that environment, , grow well
if the sun hours are on the crop area will be Kaye bloomer 2, 0
yeah it will all come together, ,, Ed

Hello Kaye, I appreciate what you do to share with us.
I pray you had a wonderful visit with you mom.
You 1.0 garden took a while. Make a list and prioritize from most important and work it accordingly.
You next garden will come together with some time.
Till next time please take good care of yourself.😉💗

I feel your pain. I moved to TN and had no idea what having acres of land entailed. Its not like Chgo were there's handymen all over or everything is in stock in the stores. I had to buy an UTV, a zero turn and a tractor!!. Now the zero turn won't cut all that hay so I need to find someone to do it or buy those implements or get rid of the hay. Who knew. So much for my lazy retirement relaxing in the garden and sipping a wine on the porch.

Keep your eyes open at Lowes and Home Depot. We found a few pieces of trex decking that were marked way down. Wasn't enough for a deck, but worked great for our garden beds. Still have it now.

As for PEC plumbing..we( meaning my husband) redid our entire 50 yr old 1, 700sf leaky lead pipe house in PEC 10 yrs ago.. it's fabulous..we live in Florida... easy now to get to and repair if necessary, we haven't had the need.. it's the thing most new homes are installing... like you say..do your research...😃

We have herds of deer in our community. We have to have a fence around our raised beds. We have a 4 foot fence which has worked well for us.

Kaye, slow down and breathe. Maybe put the 'homesteading' idea on hold right now. Take care of major problems as soon as possible. Breathe...join an organic CSA for this year. Breathe. Have your septic system flagged and maintained. Did I mention 'breathe'??? :0) Have the state check out your well and have the water tested. I would also have your property surveyed and flagged. I would not trust what the real estate person said. During this time you could be getting your boxes unpacked. I am sure you would feel very good being more organized. The gardens will wait. Mother nature will still be outside your door. Plus I believe live streaming must be exhausting and not necessary. I am sure your followers would be just as happy seeing your videos. I personally find the live stream too nerve racking. Too many scattered topics and saying 'hi' to people, confusing you and your audience. Take care dear lady.

Thanks for this. Much love from sunny Oz. Very hot with bushfires today. In fact, my outside seating is covered in ash. Always a worry here in summer. Love your work.

I think If I were you, I would take out the garden totally. Put the swing in that space, and build the tiered garden beds below that. I would put a path down the middle of the garden beds that would lead right back up to the swing. I love designing such things but I'm awful at drawing. LOL
