Amit Shah expands BSF's powers in Border States and why Punjab CM wants move rolled back

Border Security Force (BSF) officers will now have the power to arrest, search, and of seizure to the extent of 50 km inside three new states sharing international boundaries with Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, the CM of Punjab has protested against it. "I strongly condemn the government's unilateral decision to give additional powers to BSF within 50 km belt running along the international borders, which is a direct attack on the federalism. I urge the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately roll back this irrational decision," Charanjit Singh Channi tweeted. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) claims that recent drone droppings of weapons from across the border have prompted this expansion in the jurisdiction of the BSF. I think Captain Amrinder Singh ..gave some inputs for Punjab ...that after him he could not guarantee full cooperation of police With BSF so now govt expend jurisdiction of BSF in Punjab ....and all people knows the condition of police in WB so CG did same there too ...now these both states r ruled by opposition political parties so to reduce agitation reason they also include Assam, a BJP ruled state under this notification ....

I am anti-BJP. But this move by the centre is extremely useful. BSF should be given powers like this. Bcoz state police forces are ineffective and corrupted and dance according to the policies of state ministers.
I dont understand why people are protesting against this? Gov. has increased the bsf area to just 35 Km more. States have 100s of KMs to govern. What is agitating them?

Good decision. Centre needs to finally realize that border states like WB and Punjab cannot be trusted to correct their law and order situation. The defense forces need to have greater autonomy in border regions.
