When I did Wing Chun I was told that the aim was to eliminate the attacker within the first few seconds. If you perceived an attack was about to happen, draw an imaginary line and when the line is crossed you go first. Close the gap so your attacker can’t use kicks. Placing your open hands on their body ie arm or shoulder, you would feel what they were going to do next. Also to look over the person’s shoulder as you will detect movement quicker with your peripheral vision. Not done it for 30 years or so but even now some of the defensive moves just happen without me having to think about it.

It also depends on the level of each individual fighter, some masters are a whole lot better than others

In the ring, Wing Chun can't exactly use all their techniques because they can be lethal. It is usually beat out by martial arts like boxing or other mma fighting styles in the ring. In street fights though, I think Wing Chun is one of the best styles out there, along side Krav Magraw and Coperiea

Yes, be like water. Bruce Lee is right. Be like water, my friend.

God bless you Sir for a positive take on Wing Chun. I always shudder when I see our art in the title because I know a lot of the times it's gonna be a put down. These guys you showcase are perhaps not high-level Masters but they certainly show a lot of the hallmarks of how we fight.
the particular one I noticed was that they go in on the attack and they stay stuck to the opponent.
A lot of supposed Wing Chun Masters online buy into the whole sparring attack step out attack step out. that's not the way our masters taught us. We should become the other guys shadow and stick to him like a shadow. the thing that I didn't see which is actually a bit rare is that they weren't kicking and punching at the same time. This is also a hallmark of fighters have been trained properly on the dummy, we believe in using three barrels at once, not boom boom boom.
I really enjoyed this. It was much clearer and better than the majority of Wing Chun related fodder

As Bruce Lee said, "Be like water my friend." It is all about adapting to new methodologies and philosophies. One has to think beyond styles. In the end, the person is more important not the style. We all must learn to embrace the Void.

An isshinryu karate blue belt equivalent (basic Marine Corps training) once won the UFC championship, although he was later defeated twice by black belts in other styles.

I have never seen a Wing Chun "Master" who I respected, and that really includes Bruce Lee too. There are no ranks in Wing Chun so the only way to prove what you are is to either win or lose a real world fight against someone with real combat training.

Idiots used to attack my old Sensei at his place or work or on the street when they found out he was a (then) 4th Degree Black belt, because they wanted to see whether they could beat a Heavyweight 4th Dan in a real fight, and the answer is "NO, you cannot defeat a heavyweight 4th Dan in a real fight unless you are a real Heavyweight 5th Dan." Mark is now a 7th Dan in isshinryu and 55 years old. If he joined the UFC today, I'd bet money on him in the Heavyweight division, because they have never seen what a 55 years old Isshinryu 7th Dan can still do in a real fight.

I do not respect Jet Li nor Bruce Lee. About the only fight Bruce Lee ever did on film that was realistic was the vs chuck norris fight, and both Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris would get totally embarrassed by myself or a modern MMA fighter in our primes respectively. Sean Strickland would beat either Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris in their primes so badly you wouldn't even recognize their faces when he was done with them.

Title says Wing Chun Master -yet we keep hearing kung fu Master. A lot of "masters" are self proclaimed and I am not seeing any of them using gates
